The Part III question set in your paper depends on the engineering branch you selected at the time of registration. The TANCET MBA paper tests five equal sections, each with 20 questions for 20 marks. All five sections are compulsory — there is no optional or choice-based section in the MBA paper.

The TANCET MCA paper tests four areas spanning mathematics, reasoning, and computer knowledge. Mathematical Ability carries 40 out of 100 marks — the single largest section in any TANCET test paper — making it the most critical area for MCA aspirants.

TANCET 2027 applies a uniform +1 / −1/3 marking scheme across all three test papers — MBA, MCA, and ME/MTech — and across every section within those papers. Every correct MCQ earns 1 mark; every wrong answer deducts 1/3 of a mark. Questions you skip carry zero marks.

TANCET Question Types 2027

All three TANCET test papers consist exclusively of Single Correct MCQs with four answer options (A, B, C, D). There are no numerical/integer-type questions, no multi-select questions, and no subjective questions in TANCET. The MBA paper includes specialised MCQ formats — passage-based and data-sufficiency — but all are answered by selecting one option on the OMR sheet.

TANCET does not include numerical answer-type, multi-correct, or subjective questions — all answers are marked on a physical OMR sheet by darkening one bubble per question.

Since you mark answers on a physical OMR sheet, use only a black or blue ballpoint pen. Pencil marks, overwritten bubbles, or multiple darkened options for a single question will be read as incorrect by the OMR scanner. How to Prepare Based on TANCET Exam Pattern

The TANCET pattern directly shapes the most effective preparation strategy. With 100 questions, 120 minutes, and 1/3 negative marking, accuracy and selective attempting matter far more than raw speed. The tips below are grounded in the pattern structure.

1. Prioritise Part III for ME/MTech (45 marks): Part III is the single heaviest component in any TANCET paper. Strengthening your core engineering branch subjects first creates the highest per-hour return. A strong Part III score can offset a weaker Part II performance; the reverse rarely works.
2. Pace at 72 seconds per question: 120 minutes for 100 questions gives an average of 72 seconds per question. Practise full-length mock tests under this exact time constraint so you can move steadily without rushing toward the end. Reserve the last 5–7 minutes for OMR verification.
3. Apply selective attempting — negative marking is real: With −1/3 per wrong answer, three errors cancel one correct answer. Attempt a question only when you can eliminate at least two options. Skip questions where you have no conceptual anchor — the zero from skipping beats the deduction from guessing.
4. Master Engineering Mathematics early (Part I, ME/MTech): Part I covers 20 marks from a predictable, well-defined topic list — Linear Algebra, Calculus, Probability, Differential Equations, Numerical Methods. These topics appear across all engineering disciplines and have stable question patterns year over year. Mastering Part I before your branch-specific Part III gives you a reliable score base.
5. Build Quantitative Aptitude and Data Sufficiency together for MBA: These two sections together account for 40 of the 100 MBA marks. Both draw on the same numerical reasoning skills — preparing them together (rather than separately) is more efficient and surfaces the logical overlap between the two section types.
6. Dedicate 60% of MCA prep time to Mathematical Ability: Mathematical Ability carries 40 of 100 MCA marks.
