TISSNET Paper Analysis 2019 (2018, 2017 and more)

TISSNET Paper Analysis 2019: Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) successfully conducted the national-level entrance exam on January 13 in 39 exam centers across India. As per the experts and students, the GK section in TISSNET 2019 was the toughest section and English and Mathematics were the most scoring sections.

The overall cut off for the exam may not go down too much. It is expected that the candidates scoring approximately 74 – 75 marks may get shortlisted for final selection rounds. Know more

Changes Introduced in TISSNET 2019

The exam was conducted in a single session from 2 pm – 3.40 pm. Few changes were introduced in the exam pattern and type of questions. They are given below:

  • TISSNET 2019 did not have any negative marking questions.
  • The exam had a single question paper for all the MA programs offered by TISS.
  • In total there were 100 MCQs to be attempted in 100 minutes. Check TISSNET Exam Pattern

An overview of each section in TISSNET exam is given below:

Mathematics & Logical Reasoning

This section had a total of 30 questions with 17 from Quants, 7 from DI and 6 from Reasoning. Majority of the questions were either easy or easy to moderate. DI sets might have taken time-solving for some students.

English Proficiency

This section was easier than last year, having 30 MCQs in total. There were no questions on one word substitutions, analogy and idioms this year. The questions from grammar were straightforward.

TISSNET did not break its trend and GK continued to be the most difficult section of the paper. About 22-24 questions were from static GK and the remaining were from Economy and Current Affairs.

About TISSNET Exam

National Entrance Test (TISSNET) is a national-level entrance exam for admission to Post-Graduate Degree Programs. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences holds the examination each year. The following article is about TISSNET Paper Analysis over the past few years. This will give you an idea about the question paper format, most recurring topics asked in the exam and other details.  

  • TISSNET is conducted in online (computer based) mode.
  • It comprises questions from 3 sections: General Awareness, English Proficiency, and Maths & Logical Reasoning.
  • There a total of 100 multiple choice questions.
  • +1 mark is awarded for each question and there is no negative marking.

TISSNET 2017 Paper Analysis

Exam Date: January 7, 2017 | Difficulty Level: Easy to moderate | Cutoff: 80-85 for MA-HR

  • TISSNET 2017 was not a very difficult paper to attempt. In fact, it was the easiest in the last 4 years. 
  • The section-wise analysis of TISSNET 2017 is given below:

General Awareness

  • This was the most difficult section, relative to others.
  • A total of 40 questions were asked from this section.
  • Out of these 40 questions, 25 were static questions and 12 were on current affairs.
  • The candidates scoring a minimum of 20+ can be regarded as the benchmark.
  • The maximum required time for attempting all the questions in this section is around 15 minutes.

Verbal Ability

  • A total of 30 questions were these in this section.
  • Out of the 30 questions, 5 were on Reading Comprehension.
  • The RC passages were about 400 - 450 words long and almost all were direct question.
  • Almost all the questions were easily solvable.

Quantitative and Logical Ability

  • The break-up of this section varied for different candidates.
  • Some students got 7 questions on Logical reasoning, 12 questions on Quantitative aptitude and 11 questions on Data Interpretation, whereas some students got 15 questions in Logical reasoning, 8 questions in Quantitative aptitude and 7 questions in Data Interpretation.
