The total number of questions in TOEFL reading section is 30-40 and the raw score range of this section is 0-45. In TOEFL IBT Reading, each multiple-choice question carries 1 point and reading to learn question carry 2-3 points.

    There are no negative markings in TOEFL. So, for each correct answer, you will obtain a score and it will be your raw score The sum of all the correct answers is the raw score of the candidate. This raw score is used to get the scaled score.

    TOEFL reading has a scaled score range of 0-30 and it contributes towards the overall TOEFL score out of 120. The scaled score is also called the adjusted score of TOEFL.     For example, the obtained raw score of TOEFL reading is 36 out of 45. Therefore, the percentage of the raw score will be (obtained score/highest possible score)*100 or (36/45)*100= 80.

    In the step, we have to find out the equivalent of the obtained percentage in terms of the scaled score range or 0-30. According to the instance, we need to find out 80% of 30 which is (80/100)*30=24. Therefore, TOEFL reading raw score 36 denotes TOEFL scaled score of 24.
