Additional factors to keep in Mind

Based on programs the TOEFL Score requirement may get changed. For instance, at California State University, Fullerton the graduate programs need TOEFL iBT 80, for Music, it is 83, for MBA or management programs it is 88-89, for engineering or computer science it is 80 and for art with the graphic design it is 85. So, it will be better to check the university website before applying.

Many of these universities accept the students on a conditional admission basis. This means, they have to prove their proficiency later on, as asked by the university, and only then, they will be allowed to seek thorough admission into the course they want.

For example, at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, the TOEFL score needed is for conditional admission. The candidate needs to perform well in their first semester of ESL program and only then, they will enjoy admission with no additional application.

This is not the end, the universities attach the sectional score requirements too along with the TOEFL overall score. Just like Michigan State University asks for a TOEFL overall of 79 but no sub-score below 17 for regular admission students. Therefore, after learning everything about the scores and other condition of the university, the candidates can prepare for TOEFL and apply to different universities.

It will be better to make a list of the universities they want to apply and their TOEFL score requirements. The highest score is their aimed score and they need to practice for TOEFL based on that. We advise the candidates to target higher than the required TOEFL score because these universities always are in demand of the candidates who are not that strong in English. So, the competition will be tougher here.

Indian Candidates in US – Statistics

The number of Indian students in US has increased by 3% in 2019. According to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange (IIE), the number of Indian candidates in US was 202,014. To denote it in detail, the number of Indian candidates in each category increased. For example,

    • The number of undergraduate candidates increased by 6.3%
    • The number of graduate candidates increased by 5.6%
    • The number of non-degree candidates increased by 18.8%
    • The number of practical degree-seeking candidates increased by 12.3%

China consecutively holds the first position in the number of international candidates in US for 10 years and India right now is in second place. The percentage of increase is a clear indication that candidates of all genres and candidates with different goals find US a safe place.

Here many companies allow the candidates to complete their courses or pursue higher studies while working. The company policies are simple and candidates can actually get a degree to get a better placement.

Why Some US Universities accept Lower TOEFL Score?

It is obvious that not all the candidates will be that bright to secure an excellent TOEFL score of 110+. US houses numerous universities, which provide a developed course of study along with pragmatic knowledge as demanded by the workplaces afterward. Most of the universities in the US ask for a TOEFL score of around 80-90. For candidates who are not familiar with the language, it is hard to score a number like that.

Simplistically, the candidates who studied English as a second language do not often have a grip over English so well to secure above 80 score. Therefore, they will need to enroll themselves in the institutes where TOEFL score requirement is not that high. The universities mentioned here give that scope to the candidates to study in US and get a bright career.

TOEFL score requirement for best US Universities ranges from 100-110, nonetheless, it is hard for the candidates from non-English speaking nations. But they too pursue an academic career in the US with a lower TOEFL score like 65. So, don’t worry if you cannot score very high in TOEFL, because you always have a chance to study in US. All you need to research the universities and their program and eligibility criteria.
