University of Greifswald Admissions Deadlines

There are two semesters at the University of Greifswald, winter and summer. The deadline for the winter semester admission is July 15th for all courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate. While the deadline for graduate courses is January 15th of every year.

University of Greifswald International Admissions

The University of Greifswald has a large population of international students. Every year students from around the world are accepted in the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. International applicants need to show proof of German language proficiency. The entire application process is online. Applications for undergraduate courses are done through the Uni-assist website while the applications for the graduate courses are done through the University admission portal. The application process is:

  • Online Application
  • Navigate to ‘Study’ section and from the drop-down menu choose ‘Application requirements and procedure’
  • Look up what needs to be submitted
  • On the bottom of the page click on ‘Apply online uni-assist’
  • A new page will open up with more details regarding the application procedure
  • Register on the portal
  • Open up an account with the newly created credentials
  • Apply to the university of choice and upload documents

German language proficiency

All international applicants are required to be proficient in German. All classes are taught in German and the language itself will be required to navigate during day-to-day activities. However, all applicants must achieve a minimum score to be eligible for any course at Greifswald. The minimum scores acceptable at each degree is different however the general minimum scores acceptable are:

Student Visa requirements

Once the university accepts an application, students need to apply for a student visa. If the course applied to is less than 3 months then the regular Schengen visawill suffice otherwise a separate visa needs to be applied for. However, care should be taken to note that for visits longer than 90 days, entry must be done with a proper student visa. Germany does not allow the renewal of visas while there. The list of documents needed for the visa interview can be accessed online on the German government website. The process to get a student visa is

  • Apply for the visa at the nearest German embassy for the visa
  • Pay the fees of € 60.00 for the interview
  • Bring all necessary documents to speed up the processing time.
  • Appear for the interview.
  • If the visa is granted, book air tickets and fly to Germany.

University of Greifswald Undergraduate Admissions

The University of Greifswald offers two types of undergraduate courses: Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Sciencecourses. There are over 32 specializations one can choose from under these courses. The academic year of these courses is semester-based. Some courses are only for the winter semester while some are for the winter semester. University of Greifswald Graduate Admissions

The University of Greifswald has multiple graduate courses in different specializations. International applicants are accepted every year to the graduate courses. Applicants can choose from the Master of Arts and Master of Science. Having previous work experience is not a requirement but will be a valuable addition to the application. The only requirement is to have a bachelor’s degree in a related field. There are certain graduate courses that are taught in German but there are certain courses that are taught in English. For the courses taught in English, an English language proficiency score like TOEFL or IELTS need to be submitted.
