Social entrepreneurship: Become Job creators and not Job seekers

The management, faculty, staff and students of Don Bosco Institute of Technology – MMS, Kurla are organizing an annual social business summit on Saturday, 10th March from 1pm – 4pm. Every year the institute organizes the summit with the aim to create a platform for networking between NGOs, Corporates and the government bodies and to sensitize students to various social issues and the modalities of addressing them. The Summit this year will be focusing on influencing the youth of our country to look beyond job security and engage themselves in activities that will satisfy their soul and make a difference to the country. To become responsible citizens. With the changing dynamics and developmental needs, the Youth are being looked upon as future social entrepreneurs. The areas which will be reflected upon during the summit are;

  • Have social enterprises made an impact? Have they created jobs?
  • Do start - ups in the Social Enterprise sector experience ease of conducting business?
  • Social Enterprises: Barriers to growth
  • Women Social Entrepreneurs: Issues and Successes

Eminent personalities of the likes of Dr. A. Velumani, Founder and CEO, Thyrocare Technologies Ltd., Avinash Sisode, Founder and Chairman E&G Group of Companies, Shubash Talekar, Spokesperson at Mumbai Dabbawala Association, Nimesh Shetty, Founder and Director of Third Eye Cafe will be sharing their experiences, challenges, learning and thoughts during the summit. The institute has also organized an inter college competition on ‘Social Entrepreneurship’ as a part of the summit which has students from over 20 colleges participating. From students to corporate to NGO/SBOs, there is some learning in store for everyone during this summit.

"Awe-inspiring and Fun loving experience!"

I wrote an entrance test of 40 minutes which was meant to know our writing skills.The topics were very easy.I still remember one of the questions where we were asked to write about our biggest secret. Another question gave an option to choose between article writing and poem writing. One of my cousins is a pass out from Don Bosco and she suggested me to apply here. Yes, there was an interview round but it was really good experience for me.Before I entered the HOD's office I was really scared, but as soon as I entered all my worries flew away.The HOD was really polite and friendly was asked about my 12th standard board grades and about my hobbies. "Professional and affectionate"

The entrance test is conducted for assessing the writing skills and the creativity of the students.The duration of entrance test is 40 minutes, which is further divided into 2 parts of 20 minutes each. Students will be given 2 questions to write.First one will be an incomplete paragraph, students have to write a story in relevance to that paragraph. In the second half, the students will be given a poem or article writing. After the entrance test, there will be a personal interview round where the HOD will be asking general questions to the students about their hobbies, interests and past achievements.
