Prof. Balwant Sharma, Deputy Director has 41 years of experience in Academics, IT industry, and Indian Navy. Talking about HMR and the facilities are given for better future of students, he believes that student should continuously brush up their knowledge on technology and world affairs.

Ques 1: Kindly tell us about your experience in the education industry and what makes it the best industry to work in?

Ans. The experience of Education Institution is related to knowledge, living with youth and seeking new Ideas. This is what makes it interesting to work in the Education Institution.

Ques 2: Any of the significant challenges you faced as a part of HMR Institute of Technology & Management?

Ans. Being the Deputy Director of HMRITM, I face some challenges like Interacting with the Industry. Also, placement of students is a major problem. The big challenge comes in with a change in Syllabus and to keep the faculty trained.  As the world is getting more competitive, training students for facing Interview also becomes a challenge.

Ques 3: How does your curriculum ensure best practices of the industry?

Ans. The curriculum is prepared by the University. HMR continuously gives its suggestions on changes of syllabus based on experience and emergence of new technology.

Ques 4: What goals do you have in your mind for HMR Institute of Technology & Management?

Ans. HMR conducts training on Value Added Projects related to new technologies in all the four years of the engineering program. These Value Added Projects are conducted to make the students ready for industry.  Institute has tied up with the many US and European Universities, where students have opportunities for summer training.  The students get an experience of world-class Universities and education.

Ques 5: You pride yourself on the level of education and responsibility you teach to your students. How do you ensure the quality of education in your institution?

Ans. We make sure that we have latest classroom technology implemented. We take student’s feedback regularly. Diary of Teachers is checked by the Heads of Departments regularly. Our teachers plan lectures for the respective subjects.

Ques 6: How do you build a positive school culture or climate?

Ans. We at HMR ensures that there are regular visits and lectures by the Industry experts. We teach local student chapters of IEEE, IETE, CSI, ASERI etc. There are student’s debates, Quiz programs, and technical presentations by students. There is also funding for student projects/papers submitted in conferences and Journals. We also organize Annual Sports, Cultural programs, and Student’s Project Competitions. We provide our faculty with the Faculty Development Programs to ensure that they are trained as per the latest industry technology.

Ques 7: How do you tend to establish a relationship with the students?

Ans. I make sure to have interaction with students informally at various seminars/ competitions and cultural programs. Also, our students can formally interact with Head of Departments and Director with any suggestions, ideas, and grievances.

Ques 8: How do you look at the growth of students through placement opportunities available at HMR Institute of Technology & Management? How do you wish to push the envelope further?

Ans. The employment graph of students is rising continuously. Many major companies are coming for campus placement. Students are also advised to compete in open competitions of PSUs and common placement of Industries. Appropriate training and placement are continuously extending the list of Industries visiting campus by building relations with Industry.

Ques 9: What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Ans. The type of Leadership which works best in an educational institution is People Oriented. It is important to understand the young students and their needs. Students come from different social and economic backgrounds and have different academic abilities. It is important to understand these parameters of students and guide them accordingly. The same is true for leading teachers, who need to be motivated for higher academic achievement and do research work.

Ques 10: Any suggestions would you like to give to the youth and the aspiring students?

Ans. I would suggest students stress on industry needed training. They need good communication skills for a successful career. So, they should work up on that continuously. Also, they need a good awareness of world affairs and the changes taking place in technology.
