P. Vengatesh Raja, Director, S.A. Engineering College, a B.Tech and M.S, shares his experience in education industry, talks about his goals for the institute in future, gives valuable suggestion to students for their bright future and talks about how he maintain a positive environment for students.

Ques 1: Kindly tell us about your experience in the education industry and what makes it the best industry to work in?

Ans. We have been in this educational service for a long time. I cherish the service that we do to the society.When a targeted goal is accomplished in the work field, it is the best industry to work.

My goal is to concentrate on rural development by providing the requisite skills to the rural background students. We provide good education to the rural background students and make them technologically updated. We love doing it and hence Education Industry is the best to work in.

Ques 2: Any of the significant challenges you faced as the Director of S.A. Engineering College?

Ans. I faced certain challenges which are promoting values in students especially rural students, upgrading the skills of limited proficiency students, and catering to the needs of industry and society producing good students as the Director of S.A. Engineering College.

Ques 3: How does your curriculum ensure best practice of industry?

Ans. Beyond the conventional methodology of teaching, we give more importance to impart the practical knowledge through practical sessions, industrial visits, internship and real time projects. Also, we provide good learning ambience through a good infrastructure. Through Industry-Institute Interaction, we make the students to interact with industrial experts.

Ques 4: What goals do you have in your mind for S.A. Engineering College?

Ans. We have certain goals in our mind which are imparting upgrading technological understanding, enhancing the technical expertise and research activities of the faculty and students, and taking the proven standard of the institution towards an Autonomous, University standard.

Ques 5: You pride yourself for the level of education and responsibility you teach here to students. How do you ensure the quality of education in your institution?

Ans. The quality of education is proved through Anna University results along with ranks, rankings through various educational surveys such as Placement opportunities, Entrepreneurships and Skill India Programs.

Ques 6: How do you build a positive school culture or climate?

Ans. Positive culture is enriched through Motivation Programs, Yoga, Meditation Trainings, Various Club Activities, Encouragement, Extra-curricular activities such as Sports, Cultural, Placement Trainings, Value Added Courses, Guest Lectures, Symposiums, and Conferences etc. Also, drilling towards students’ capability i.e. encouraging and initiating project works and motivating the students to pursue the higher studies abroad by giving training for International exams like GRE, IELTS, TOEFL, PET etc.

Ques 7: How do you tend to establish a relationship with the students?

Ans. Maintaining a 1:15 mentor – student ratio, communication of student, parent feedback though mails, Google applications, updating college events to the knowledge of students and parents through Facebook, Twitter and Alumni website.

Ques 8: How do you look at the growth of students through placement opportunities available at S.A. Engineering College? How do you wish to push the envelope further?

Ans. Through the Training and Placement Cell activities, we help in filling the gap between Industry and Institution, bringing the industrial experts to provide hands on training to the students, continuous assessments of the technical and aptitude skills and analysis of performance. The opportunities have grown wider recently to reach 95% placement opportunities.

Ques 9: What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Ans. Our Leadership philosophy is transforming vision into reality. Adaptability of honest means to accomplish the tasks, belief in group discussion for the successful accomplishments of the task, giving space to individuals, listening and responsive to change.

Ques 10: Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Ans. Keep yourself updated technologically, follow professional ethics, enhance employability skills, develop societal awareness, cultivate professionalism and be yourself through the right means.
