23rd February 2018, Hyderabad: ICFAI Business School (IBS) follows a unique selection process for over 20 years for admission into 9 ICFAI Business School (IBS) Campuses (IBS Ahmedabad, IBS Bangalore, IBS Dehradun, IBS Gurgaon, IBS Hyderabad, IBS Jaipur, IBS Kolkata, IBS Mumbai and IBS Pune). Admissions are done through an admission test (IBSAT) conducted all over India in December every year.
About 35,000 candidates have appeared for the test and 25,000 have qualified for the selection process this year. The qualified candidates are invited to attend the Selection Process at IFHE (ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education), Deemed-to-be-University, Hyderabad from February 20-26, 2018.
This year too, in the intervening period, Selection Briefings were conducted at 90 locations all over India wherein candidates qualified in IBSAT were invited along with their parents to provide them complete information pertaining to the selection process.

An updated curriculum, developed in consultation with experts from the industry, ensures that the students are equipped with the knowledge required for them to succeed in a dynamic business environment. IBS employs the case method of learning, students are confronted with contemporary real-world problems in the classroom, and they are expected to diagnose the problem, identify and analyze the alternatives and collaboratively arrive at solutions to the problems. This helps them apply the theoretical concepts to real-world problems, and thus equips them with vital skills and a bias for action.
IBS has a strong “work hard, play hard” ethic, with many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Students are provided with opportunities to engage themselves in student-run clubs, sports, and cultural fests. There are various clubs organized and run by the students at IBS. In addition to clubs in domain areas like Entrepreneurship, HR, Marketing, Operation, CSR, etc., there are other clubs like the Photography, Drama, etc., that provide a creative outlet for the talented students and also keeps the campus buzzing with activity.
Student activities are also a great opportunity for the students to ‘learn by doing’ outside their classroom. For instance, in addition to applying management skills while managing the operations of the clubs and organizing various events, students also hone their communication skills and other soft skills which they have learned in the classroom. They intuitively pick up team working, leadership and collaborative skills that are so highly valued by the industry. Faculty members work closely with the students not only in the classroom but also through different club activities and mentorship programs.
Students go back with enduring memories of the vibrant campus life at IBS, and often come back to visit their alma mater and involve themselves in the 43,000+ strong alumni network, another key strength of IBS. The selection is based on the past academic record, performance in the Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
In the Group Discussion, a topic will be announced to a group of 12 candidates. The candidates will be given 15 minutes for the group discussion. After discussion, each candidate will be given an opportunity to summarize his/her opinion in a minute. Depending on the individual contribution the attributes of the candidates are assessed by 2 Faculty panel members on various parameters like expression, initiative, communication, analytical skills and behavior in a group.
The Personal Interview is the final stage of the Selection Process. 2 Faculty panel members will evaluate the candidates. The interview panel will focus on assessing the attitude and aspirations of the candidates besides evaluating their general knowledge, communication skills, clarity of thought and expression and aptitude for a career in management.
Past Academic Record carries weightage of 50 marks, Group Discussion 25 marks and Personal Interview 25 marks. A composite score is calculated for 100 marks after the completion of the selection process and campuses are allotted strictly based on merit.
