You have been associated with NIT Goa from a long span of 4 years, what all drastic changes have you witnessed in your career, in the domain of education?

Building a new institution is a tedious task, we are still developing.  Improving infrastructure, administration, taking it to a national level requires commitment and hard work. Education requires set of aims and steps to achieve more. Vision of our institution is to march relentlessly towards our goal. These years have been full of efforts; we hope to raise our standard with time.

In your tenure at NIT Calicut, the institution achieved name, fame and excellence. Please tell us about experience?

During my association with NIT Calicut, new courses were initiated according to the need of the hour. One branch that developed was ‘Research culture’, which received great response. The success rate of the institute increased due to research. We are looking forward to implement more of such projects at NIT Goa as well   to reach greater heights.

It is important for a person to opt for a specialization for higher studies whereas you chose various subjects for your masters and research work?

I am a Photonics man, I pursued my interests and there was no stopping. I advise students to choose what they are passionate for, and not under any sort of pressure. Follow your heart and work hard for it, success won’t be far away. You can always excel in what you desire to do wholeheartedly.

You have also been a part of Head of Technical Institutions led by Secretary, MHRD, and Govt. of India in the year 2008. How has the experience been worthwhile?

I am an active participant of various committees. Through these rich experiences I learn and wish to contribute to it the institutions I work with. Knowledge is best when imparted, that has been my motive along with learning processes. The public sector has also undergone growth with time, we are flexible to expand.

What are the key qualities you want each student to possess in this competitive scenario?

I believe in 360 degree growth of a student. It is important to balance academics and other interests. Managing everything with excellence makes a student complete. Moreover, a student must always be keen to learn. Setting a goal is very important.

How does your institution cater to the needs of the outside world, i.e., industry, market, research?

We invite people from various areas for acquainting our students with the outside world. Experienced professionals are invited, research programs are initiated, and innovation is encouraged. We leave no stone unturned when it comes making our students aware. These are some steps taken to make education better at NIT Goa.

What are the initiatives taken for growth of the institution?

Our priority is to provide best infrastructure and skilled faculty; these are the two foremost steps. We have also initiated research at undergraduate level. I am glad, students are enjoying. It has got better response at a young level, as they are full of ideas. Good students make a good institution, we are grooming students.

You have attended multiple conferences all over the world, how do you wish to implement the lessons gathered?

It is a process, whatever we learn, we shall teach. I implement all the lessons for betterment. Having travelled through conference programs, I have gained a lot of experience. I wish to impart all I have learnt to the students and teachers.

The foremost responsibility is to establish a relation with students, What is between students and authorities?

There is no gap between teachers and students at NIT Goa. If faculty and administration are good, there are no gaps, it is easy to interact. If teachers are teaching well, the relation is automatically developed.

How does the training and placement cell of NIT Goa function?

We are still working on placement cell. We are going to assign an in charge for the same. At present we have placement facilities available by good companies, but we want to grow and have the best companies. Our students get an average package of 16-17lacs. We are aiming for more and are under development for the same.

How do you wish to become an efficient contributor to the society?

We are contributing to the society and economy by producing skilled students. Students these days can achieve whatever they want, by giving wings to their dreams, we are definitely contributing. We want to diminish the gap between exposure and students.

What are your views on Reservation policy? Is it beneficial or not?

Reservation is extremely important to avoid conflict in the society. It cannot be done away with. It helps to reach out to all sections, to make education affordable and accessible.
