IIST Thiruvananthapuram commences Admission Process for PhD Programmes 2016

 

Admissions have started for PhD Programmes at IIST Thiruvananthapuram and desirable candidates can apply online until December 4, 2015. After the submission of duly filled-in applications, the candidates have to pay the required fee through the generated SBI Bank Challan by December 8, 2015.

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram has PhD Programmes starting in January 2016, in the fields of Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Earth and Space Sciences, Chemistry, Humanities, Mathematics and Physics. Admission will be granted to the eligible candidates on the basis of written test and interview.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to IIST PhD Programmes 2016:

Post-Graduates in Engineering/Technology:

  • The candidate should have obtained first class or equivalent in his/her master’s degree
  • The candidate must have pursued their post-graduation on the basis of qualified GATE 2016 score
  • The candidate who have completed MS in Engineering or equivalent from leading foreign universities with an exceptional academic record OR having MS in Research with outstanding academic record do not require General Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Scores
  • The candidates having Integrated Master’s degree (or Dual Degree) in Engg/Tech from IITs and IISc with minimum CGPA 9.0/10 do not require GATE Scores

Post-Graduates in Science:

  • The candidate should possess master’s degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their post-graduation
  • The candidates should have passed UGC/ CSIR NET/ JEST/ GATE in the relevant disciplines

Post-Graduates in Humanities:

  • The candidate should possess master’s degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent in their post-graduation
  • The candidate should have qualified UGC NET-JRF in the relevant disciplines

Graduates in Engineering/Technology:

  • The candidates who have completed their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with minimum CGPA of 9.0/10 and a valid GATE score of 675 or better can be considered for direct admission to the Ph.D. Programmes
  • The candidates who possess B.Tech degree from IITs with CGPA better than 9.0/10 can be considered without GATE Scores

Age Limit: The candidate should be below 28 years as on 30th November 2015.

Nationality: Applicant should be an Indian citizen.

IIST Thiruvanathapuram Fee Structure 2016

Pre-requisites for submitting online application:

  • A valid email ID
  • Candidate’s recent scanned photograph in JPG/JPEG format of maximum 100kb size
  • Candidate’s scanned signature with black pen in JPG/JPEG format of maximum 100kb size
  • For SC/ST/OBC/PwD category candidates, scanned copy of the relevant caste certificate/ medical certificate in JPG/JPEG format

Application Fee for IIST PhD Programmes Admission 2016:

  • The application fee for General candidates is Rs. 250/- per Department code. For SC/ST/PWD and Women candidates, the required fee is Rs.125/- per Department code
  • If the candidate wishes to apply for more than one Department code, he/she must submit the application and application fee for the respective Department codes separately

Application Process to apply for PhD Programmes at IIST Thiruvananthapuram:

  • The desirable candidates can apply online at the IIST website. Only the applications received online will be considered for the admission process
  • The applicants should be careful while filling the profile entries and will not be allowed to make any changes in the profile registration once submitted
  • After filling-in the relevant details and uploading your photograph, signature, and other essential documents (Caste Certificate/ Medical Certificate, wherever applicable), the candidate should see the preview of his/her application. After verifying all the entered details, the candidate should click the “Confirm” button provided in the page
  • After the profile has been successfully submitted, the candidate will be allotted his/her IIST Registration Number and Login Password
  • In the next step, the candidates should choose the Department code they wish to apply (one of more)
  • Upon successful course registration, the candidate should download the automatically generated Bank Challan for the concerned Department code(s) for submission of required application fee
  • The candidate should print the Bank Challan and submit the application fee to any SBI Branch after 48 hours of date of registration. The candidate must retain the student’s copy and institute’s copy of challan which contains the journal number and seal of the bank
  • The candidate should upload the challan’s institute’s copy, stamped by the bank, to complete the application procedure. The candidate should keep a copy of the challan for future use
  • The candidates should bring the copy of the Bank challan of the respective Department code at the time of the interview, if selected
  • The candidates currently working in Government/Semi Government/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies should also produce a “No Objection Certificate (NOC)” from the current employer at the time of interview, if selected

IIST Selection Process for PhD Programmes 2016:

  • The eligible candidates will be selected for written test and interview round on the basis of his/her best GATE or NET scores. List of such candidates will be displayed on IIST website by December 15, 2015
  • In case of large number of candidates being short-listed for PhD Programmes, a written test will be conducted to shortlist applicants for the interview process
  • The final selection of the candidates will be based on their performance in the interview which will be conducted at IIST, Thiruvananthapuram in the First week of January 2016
  • The candidates selected for admission will be intimated within a week after the final interview. List of the final candidates will also be put up on the official website on January 11, 2016
