30th March 2018, Jalandhar: Hotel Management students at Lovely Professional University are on the verge of establishing a world record by creating the longest salad bar. Laid for display at Baldev Raj Mittal Unipolis of the campus, the 311.2 meters long salad bar, made of 7 types of vegetables and weighing 1259 Kgms, was a sight to relish.

Beating the last world record of 210 meters, this unique feat, organized by the LPU management and School of Hotel Management and Tourism, was aimed at the promotion of Indian Vegetable Salad, exquisite Indian appetizing dressings, condiments, and spices.

It took the team of 1,000 students and about 50 staff members 24 hours to clean, chop, slice, grate the 7 ingredients consisting of tomato, cucumber, cabbage, carrot, lettuce, beetroot, radish, and to arrange all that into a giant salad bar. The dressing consisting of 10 items including spices added photogenic as well as appetizing craving dimension to the bar.

Witnessed and relished by more than 10,000 people, the event started at 10 am and extended till 6 pm. It was overseen by health officials and public representatives. Hygiene, in respect of the material, the process, and that of the preparers, including the exhibition venue, was strictly adhered to. Visitors, students, and the staff not only enjoyed walking along the massive decorated vegetable salad bar but also helped themselves in partaking of it in disposable plates. Special care was taken to avoid food wastage. This was highly appreciated by all NGOs that visited the record creating event.

Feeling satisfied with the initiative, Chancellor Mr. Ashok Mittal observed, “This event exhibits the amount of training of the student and their zeal to be at the top of whatever they think of doing. This university intends to plan more events of such kind in the near future for providing wider exposure to the efforts of our brilliant students.” In this event, Lovely Group Vice Chairman Mr. Naresh Mittal also graced the occasion.
