Prof. D. S. Chauhan is currently the Vice Chancellor of GLA University, Mathura. Collegedunia takes immense pride in sharing his wise words with the youth and hope they get inspired by the same.

Ques 1: Kindly tell us about your experience in the education industry and what makes it the best industry to work in?

Ans. Educational Institutions serve the country as a whole. They educate the youth who will leave no stone unturned in providing service to the country in defence, industrial education, administration, finance, research agencies and so on.

Ques 2: Any of the significant challenges you faced in GLA?

Ans. GLA was an established Institute since 1998. It was given University status in 2010. Now after years of continuous efforts and competitive market challenges, University got ‘A’ grade in NAAC. The campus is spread in 150 acres where 6000 male and female students are residing in 15 hostels inside the campus out of 11000 students. GLA has taken one of brand name in private University in UP state. It is affordable university where 3500 students admitted every year. Certain difficulties were faced in the beginning in keeping discipline and academics together and providing placements but since 2013-14 session, it is running smoothly with 72% and more placement.

Ques 3: What goals do you have in your mind for GLA?

Ans. Now new era of GLA University has begun. 150 faculty members out of 600 are with Ph.D. degree and UGC eligible qualified staff. This will help students to achieve 100% placement. Research scholars are part time and full time both, regularly contributing in their research. Incubation center, E-Cell etc. are promoting new professional culture. GLA University has been taking new shape through placement oriented academics.

Ques 4: Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Ans. Read more missions with active learning where choice and voice of the students will be more on critical thinking and contribution in problem solving philosophy. One should accomplish PROBLEM SOLVING learning as philosophy of life.

Ques 5: How do you look at the growth of students through placement opportunities available at GLA? How do you wish to push the envelope further?

Ans. 80% soft skill and 20% hard skill together can cover most of the milestones. 200 companies are at your door. Therefore, to learn to enter their premises as employees is Mantra of GLA.  

Ques 6: How do you tend to establish a relation with the students?

Ans. Knock the doors of teachers as it is your own home and as you knock to meet mother and father. Fear not to speak out any problem face to face. Online resources are available to inform authorities and meet anytime, any day with no limitation of time.

Ques 7: Tell us about your path towards attaining the positions of elite?

Ans. Attend conferences, workshops, contribute research papers in elite journals, and promote students at national and international test conducted GATE, NET, GRE, GMAT. Reach out to GLA information matching with elite institutions. grooming may done slowly but student and teacher should reach fast to their elite presence in all paths of life.

Ques 8: How do you build a positive school culture or climate?

Ans. Positive culture is the peaceful living and harmony and cooperative nature of everyone living in campus. He/she may be teacher, fellow student, male or female. Always be positive on achievements. One must keep oneself free for learning new assignments on all fronts, sport, cultural activities, and class room teaching and good to everyone around. Effective communication in desired language. It may be English and Hindi or provincial language.

Ques 9: What is your take on education being digitalized?

Ans. Digital world is around you. Learn how to handle and participate online banking, online submission of application, fees, download MOOC, NPTEL notes, etc. learn things from YouTube which are useful for your topic. There are thousands of books in open digital world. Exchange of views freely.

Ques 10: What would be your ideal school environment, and how would you encourage that kind of culture?

Ans. Love self and love discipline. Everything follows you and your good nature.
