How do you look at your association with IMS Unison University?
I am with this University for the last one year after completing my tenure of 5 years as a Vice Chancellor of Indra Prastha (IP) University, New Delhi. The University was established by the IMS society in the year 2013 through the enactment by the Uttrakhand Assembly. The society has been in the education field for more than 18 years or so launching two institutions namely IMS and DIT. Both the institutes had established their reputation in UTTARAKHAND as a management and engineering institutes prior to becoming IMS Unison and DIT University respectively. The promoting society has tremendous sense of aesthetics and quality. The concern for quality teaching is the top priority of the management. This only attracted me to join the University as a Vice Chancellor.
Any of the significant challenges you faced as Vice Chancellor, IMS Unison University?
To attract and retain effective faculty members who can become the guide cum mentor cum philosopher for the students. Raising fund is a significant challenge for the growth of the University.
How do you look to enhance the value of MBA & Engineering program with the IMS Unison University?
IMS Unison University has not yet started the engineering program. It is known in Northern India as a reputed University in the field of Management, Law and Mass Communications. The experimentation that we have been making here to provide along with innovative curriculum, different Value added Programs such as Skill Enhancement Program, Six Sigma, SAP, NIIT certification programs, ART of Living practices etc. is paying us enormous dividend.
How do you stand against the established brands in Management?
Brands are needed to be built up. Established brand has also taken their time to build up. Every brand has its life cycle.Rome was not built in a day. Like a child needs more or less 25 years to earn his/her livelihood, an academic institution also takes 20 to 25 years to become a known brand. However from day one, the Institutions ought to be concerned with quality of teaching and quality of knowledge creation. Private University concept is of very recent origin and serious players are going to survive in the long run and non serious players are going to be wiped out. Those who survive are going to be a brand by itself.
What according to you are the top 2 things that the MBA program teaches and nobody else teaches?
The MBA program teaches a student a holistic thinking both horizontally and laterally and an integrated approach of problem solving in the context of any organization.
How your curriculum ensures best practices of Industry?
Executives from different corporate are invited to teach to our students; mainly the best practices that are followed in their organizations. Our pedagogy of teaching is through Case Studies based on best practices.
Your take on employability vs placements w.r.t MBA program?
Employability should be the buzzword for any academic Institutions for imparting education to the students. Education has three components- Skill, Knowledge and Attitude. Any curriculum/program which provides the students all three attributes together encourages the students in becoming employable. If only one or two attributes are provided, then total transformation of the students does not take place. They only talk about placement just to earn livelihood.
What is your message to the students who wish to join IMS Unison University?
Do not get lured by glossy advertisements, assess the quality of teaching and value addition imparted by any University. IMS Unison University stands for quality whatsoever it does.
How do you look at enhancing student-industry interaction at IMS UnisonUniversity?
We have made it compulsory to impart value added programs run by the Industry honchos to all our students. Regular guest and visiting faculty from industry are invited to interact and interface with students. Internship in the Industry has been made compulsory.
Any advice to Young Students?
Before taking any program of studies, ask yourself does it interest me or not. Do not get influenced by parents, peers or societal pressures. If you are passionate about your studies, you will excel. Every program of studies has scopes provided you excel in that area. Understand your passion and go ahead in life.
