25th January 2018, Hyderabad: GITAM (Deemed to be University) Hyderabad B.Tech students celebrated Ethnic Day and the GITAM National Service Scheme (NSS) organized ‘Voter Awareness Rally’ on the occasion of ‘National Voters Day Celebrations’ on 25th January 2018.

In the ethnic day celebrations, there was a slice of Telangana, a bit of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and other states as well. Depicting the cultures and traditions of respective states, students dressed in traditional attires and also arranged food items at different stalls at the campus as part of the Ethnic Day celebrations.

Girls were dressed in Ghagharas, Sherwanis, Lehangas and traditional sarees and the boys wore dhotis, lungis etc. It was mandatory for all students participating in the event to come in traditional outfits. The main message of the celebration was to respect the traditions and recognize the culture of the others.

Besides this, the students also organized Cooking, Mehndi and Rangavalli competitions and Kites fest as well. The ethnic dances and display were finished off with ethnic food.

Whereas at the National Voter’s Day celebrations, Prof. N.Siva Prasad, Pro Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the rally and advised the students to enroll their name in the voter list, those who have attained 18 years of age. He administered the pledge to National Voters Day.

GITAM B-School Dean & Director Prof. Y.Lakshman Kumar, Resident Director DVVSR Varma, School of Technology Principal Prof. Ch.Sanjay, School of Science Principal Prof. G.A.Rama Rao, NSS Coordinators Dr. P.V.Nagendra Kumar, Dr. P.Vasudeva Naidu, HoDs of various departments, faculty, students and volunteers were also took part in the rally and pledge.
