11th June 2018, Hyderabad: GITAM deemed to be University, Hyderabad organized a two-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Activity Based Learning’ at its campus on June 8 & 9, 2018. Prof. V.Ganesan, Former Dean (AR) IIT Madras inaugurated the FDP on June 8 in the presence of GITAM Hyderabad.
After the inauguration, Dr. Ganesan told that “The main purpose of activity-based learning is making the classroom more student-friendly and reduce the intimidation and domination of the teacher. The overall quality of teaching and learning is improved when students have ample opportunities to clarify, question, apply, and consolidate new knowledge.”

Prof. D.N.Reddy, Director, CR Rao AIMSCS, HCU and Former Vice-Chancellor, JNTUH participated as a chief guest on this occasion and delivered the keynote address. He said that “Activities based learning strategies help to increase the self-learning practices and to develop higher-order cognitive skills among the student teachers. Further, faculty should give more attention to allocate the classrooms with adequate facilities, and to allocate enough time for the activities.” He advised the faculty to choose the profession by interest only but not by choice. Be passionate as a professor for teaching and research, try to record daily basis, collaborate and share the credit, he exhorted to the faculty. He expressed his unhappiness that the skill set very low in India and more jobs have been remaining unfilled because of not available skilled manpower.
Prof. M.S. Shunmugam, Professor Emeritus, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras also shed light on ‘Developing Critical Skills for Problem Solving’. All faculty of GITAM, Hyderabad took part in the FDP.
