GITAM University, Hyderabad had an eventful September and was indulged in the celebrations of various occasions at its campus. Major events like ‘Engineers Day’, ‘Pharmacists Day’ and ‘Bathukamma festival’ were celebrated with enthusiasm. A 10-day program by the name of ‘Spoken English and Writing Skills’ was also conducted by GITAM University. To add to the university’s feat, a student from GITAM got admission into MS in the prestigious King’s College, London.

1. GITAM student’s admission in King’s College, London
On September 14, 2017, GITAM Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.Siva Prasad informed in a press release that Computer Science and Engineering student Tanuja Bhamidipati got admission into MS in the world’s prestigious King’s College, London (World 16th rank). GITAM Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof.
Two years ago, Neeraja Bhamidipati (GITAM Alumni), sister of Tanuja had also got admission into MS in the University of Cambridge, UK (World 2nd rank) and finished the same with distinction. She has been pursuing her Ph.D. in the same University.
Bhamidipati sisters were appreciated by Prof. Ch.Sanjay, Principal, School of Technology, Prof. G.A.Rama Rao, Principal, School of Science, Prof. Y.Lakshman Kumar, Dean & Director, GHBS, DVVSR Varma, Resident Director, Dr. Nathi Venu Kumar, Director, T&P Cell, HoDs of various departments, faculty and students.
2. Engineers Day
The university celebrated ‘Engineers Day’ event on September 15, 2017. The chief guest for the event was Suresh Chukkapalli, Chairman, Phoenix Group. “To lead a successful life, everybody should work hard. There is no shortcut to success. Be transparent, be honest and have a good heart. It provides the credibility to lead a successful life” he said.
While interacting with budding engineers, he exhorted that never think about failures, they will become the stepping stones to the success. He also explained his personal experience and told that many entrepreneurs failed in many attempts to become a successful man. There are plenty of opportunities in core branch of engineerings like Mechanical, Civil and EEE, only thing is you are ready to work hard in the field, he said. Those who don’t get selected in campus placement drive also become successful entrepreneurs, so don’t get offended about your failure. Modernization of cremation centers by him gave him a lot of satisfaction than any other achievement, he concluded. He interacted with the students spontaneously and guided them to a better path.
Earlier, Prof. Ch.Sanjay, Principal, School of Technology and Prof. Y.Lakshman Kumar, Dean & Director, GHBS felicitated the guest and offered him a shawl, memento and fruit bowl.
3. Pharmacists Day
GITAM School of Pharmacy, GITAM University, Hyderabad celebrated ‘World Pharmacists Day’ at its conference hall on September 26, 2017. WorldPharmacists Day is used to highlight the impact and added value of the pharmacy profession and its role in improving health to authorities, other professions as well as to the general public. The theme of this year’s campaign was ‘Form Research to Health Care: Your Pharmacist is at your service’.
Dr. M.N.Murali Krishna, Head R&D, ASPHAR Research Labs graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and called on the Government to value the contribution of Pharmacists wherever they practice and empower. Especially, in this context, the community pharmacists, to develop further their services in primary health care.
As care providers, we pharmacists, have achieved tremendous success in our goals to improve patients’ quality of life”, M.Vinod, Pharmacist, Government Hospital, Sangareddy told. K.R.Koteshwara Rao, Assistant Drugs Inspector, CDSCO appealed that, took this opportunity to promote pharmacy profession and demonstrate just how much we care for our patients.
Prof. G.A.Rama Rao, Principal, School of Science conveyed his heartfelt thanks to all pharmacists around the world and Dr. G.S.Kumar, Principal, School of Pharmacy welcomed the guests on this occasion. Faculty and students also took part in this celebration.
4. Spoken English & Writing Skills Event and Bathukamma Celebrations
GITAM University, Hyderabad conducted a 10-day free training program in “Spoken English and writing skills” for 9th and 10th class students. In the CSR program of about 40 students, those residing near and around GITAM campus had participated. GU-Hyd Pro VC Prof. N.Siva Prasad distributed the certificates and notebooks to the students who completed their training successfully.
School of Technology Principal Prof. Ch.Sanjay, Resident Director DVVSR Varma, T&P Director Dr. Nathi Venu Kumar, Vice Principal Prof. K.Akkalakshmi, HoDs of various departments and faculty also took part in the inaugural session.
Staff and students also celebrated Bathukamma/Dasara on a grand scale. ‘B’ block portico was filled with colorful Bathukammas. Womenfolk participated in the Traditional Bathukamma prayers. Particularly, Bathukamma songs by women attracted all attendees. Children’s participation and involvement was the highlight of the event. As per the Traditional ritual, Bathukkama dance was performed and Bathukammas were drowned in water.
