Vice Chancellor of Rama University, Dr. Rushen Chahal talks about his experience in the education industry, gives suggestions to the aspiring students. Read the entire interview below.

Dr. Rushen Chahal is the Group President Digital Initiatives & Vice Chancellor at Rama University. He has 21 years of experience in Digital Business, Product, Transformation, Innovation & Content Management. He has worked in 6 countries with Accenture, Infosys, Blackwater Research and GE Appliances. He had built the Digital Marketing Initiative-B2B & B2C Product and Services Delivery model. He has also built the GE Google Partnership for Customer Consumption Modeling & Artificial Intelligence Initiative. He has been the mentor to two postgraduate colleges for MBA, M Tech, and PhD programs. Dr. Rushen regularly contributes to The Pioneer, The Statesman, The Tribune and The Deccan Herald for Digital Marketing and Analytics. The is also the book author of The Digital Entrepreneur and Approach to Digital Transformation for SME’s.

Dr. Rushen was the winner of 2016 – HIT – Ricoh Business World Educational Excellence Award.

Ques 1: Kindly tell us about your experience in the education industry and what makes it the best industry to work in?

Ans. Every senior industry veteran should aim at spending at least 3 years of his life’s most valuable years giving to the children today and helping them evolve as competent resources for tomorrow. This is the only way we can help our education framework grow. The industry experts who are not in for teaching should be made a part of the UGC review committee for curricula.

Ques 2: Any of the significant challenges you faced in Rama University?

Ans. Hiring the right talent is the biggest challenge today at any university.

Ques 3: What goals do you have in your mind for Rama University?

Ans. Rama University in the last two years has grown from 9 to 13 faculties and from 700 admissions a year to over 2,000 this year. We have expanded our reach beyond UP to Nepal, North East States, J&K and Central India. Additionally, we have setup a Nodal Placement Center catering to all of the students from 257 colleges in the Kanpur District. Our platform is doing wonders and we have expanded our reach to 110 schools in one year. We will continue to build on these and expand/ solidify our reach.

Ques 4: Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Ans. Focus on Google technologies and you will find your path – no matter which branch you are from.

Ques 5: How do you look at the growth of students through placement opportunities available at Rama University? How do you wish to push the envelope further?

Ans. As explained above, our nodal placement center is running full steam and partnering with all govt and private agencies possible. We now aim to take the activities of the nodal placement center beyond the district of Kanpur.

Ques 6: How do you tend to establish a relationship with the students?

Ans. We have all university functions e-enabled and launched a mobile app for all our students, we hope to remove all communication barriers and help students get the right information and enable them to be able to escalate their issues if any, via our ticketing system recently launched.

Ques 7: Tell us about your path towards attaining the positions of an elite?

Ans. We have tied up with 6 different companies and organizations in the last one year for setting up their centers of excellence and our aim is to expand our connect with companies from all possible domains.

Ques 8: What is your take on education being digitalized?

Ans. LMS systems now need to evolve from just process and program management and AI needs to be incorporated to better understand the student / his needs and prorated curriculum to match the pace of learning of a student.

Mundane Learning management systems which simply look at automating processes, will go away in the next 3 years.
