Mr. Saurabh Jain’s experience in the education industry
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. I have grown up listening to this and I totally believe that an investment in knowledge pays the best dividend. Hailing from a publishing background, Vidya Prakashan, one of India’s leading publishing house, education industry is not new to me but ever since the establishment of Vidya Knowledge Park in 2006, I am looking after the day to day operations of the campus and exuberance of the education.
As far as the Indian Education Industry goes, it’s huge, not just now but since time immemorial, remember Nalanda where scholars from all over the world arrived. Today the country has more than 1.5 million schools with over 260 million students enrolled and about 751 universities and 35,539 colleges. With one of the largest higher education systems in the world, I still feel that thought leadership of those ancient times is still missing and that’s where the true potential lies.
With world’s largest Tertiary-age population and second largest graduate talent pipeline globally the education sector in India is poised to witness major growth in the years to come. With the power to empower people, interacting with brilliant like-minded individuals, changing a million lives, staying on the top of your game because information is becoming obsolete at the blink of the second, the dynamism, the interaction and the continuous learning is what makes education industry best to work in. And probably, that’s why Forbes rated Education as the second happiest industry to work in with a happiness index of 4.06, just after the government sector at 4.07.
Significant challenges faced as a part of Vidya Knowledge Park
Building a world-class setup with global benchmarks at a place in Uttar Pradesh wasn’t easy. The major challenge was creating a conglomerate of exceptional academicians because at the end of the day they are the ones to convert the vision into reality by providing an education that speaks for itself. The next big challenge was to create a high-tech environment. With the known facts that an individual remembers 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see and a whopping 70% of what they see and hear, we introduced fully AV projector based smart classes to take the learning experience to the next level. And then the challenge was setting up the best industry interaction and getting companies on the campus for placements. Initial days it was lot of hard work but now when our alumni are ruling and performing their best in various MNCs in India and Abroad.
We are proud to host a multitude of companies for placements and their senior executives for interactive sessions under our signature program Vidya Leadership Series. The challenges were huge but as they say, you have to accept the challenges to feel the exhilaration of victory.
Curriculum at Vidya Knowledge Park
Being affiliated with a university, we can’t do much about the syllabus. But we definitely innovate with the content that we deliver. With the leading edge white papers and presentation, we make sure our classroom teaching follows a pedagogy which not only provides information but also inspires a spark in our students to apply that information and go beyond. With some of the best academicians on board at senior and guiding positions, our professor delivers the most recent information amalgamated with their rich experience and tricks.
We have a CCP program to plan, organize and monitor the course coverage and a digital ERP to help ease out the process. Also, we ensure regular guest lectures, field and industrial visits along with the corporate training to bridge the gap between industry and academia. We also have a special job skill module wherein we polish our students and fill up the skill deficiency gap which is a major area of concern in the majority of graduates.
Goals in mind for Vidya Knowledge Park
Goals give focus but dreams give power. We visualize Vidya Knowledge Park as the first choice for students, parents and teachers not just from Uttar Pradesh but from the entire country and beyond. Currently, we have students from 18 states of India and we aim to have people from other geographies as well to have a very diversified population on the campus because it creates a very rich learning environment.
The next focus is to develop our campus as a full-fledged university so that we have more autonomy on the syllabus. Going further we also plan to associate with some reputed international universities and big corporate houses for high-quality information exchange.
Quality of education in Vidya Knowledge Park
Quality is never an accident, it is always the result of high intentions, sincere efforts, intelligent directions and skilful execution. It represents the wise choice of many alternatives and it is the sum total of all the little activities that are undertaken day in and day out. With that in mind, we make sure we don’t miss out on any of those fundamentals and these principals are imbibed from the top to the bottom of the pyramid. With a regular Performance feedback, target setting and accountability we ensure to deliver the best in class education to our students. Additional supplementary classes help weak students come up with the challenging demands of the syllabus and the Job Skill Module provides them with the overall polishing and grooming that makes our graduates stand out not just in the job market but in life as well.
School culture in Vidya Knowledge Park
Creating a positive school climate is really, really hard to do. People have minds of their own, and you can’t make them feel peppy and optimistic on command. It takes a lot of toils and much care to implement, simply because human motivations and needs are so complex. We have established a very democratic system in which the class representatives from various classes join in for the meeting with the dean student affairs wherein the issues are heard and resolved. We also have 25 beyond academics’ clubs functioning in the campus pertaining to various interest groups with a vision to boost up the morale of the students. In addition, we have a bunch of various activities and events that go all round the year with some of the best celebrities on the campus to create one of the most exciting college life. With all of that , we make sure we create an unparalleled delight.
Mr. Saurabh’s relationship with the students
I firmly believe, at their core organizations are just a giant network of relationships. So, if you fail to build those relationships your chances of success are not very high. Therefore, we have a huge focus on building those relationship. We start by providing a well-structured environment, next we make sure that we teach with enthusiasm and passion and display a positive attitude to make learning fun. Apart from these activities, we have a very active Social media matrix wherein our students get to know about the happenings in the campus and can share their whereabouts in the campus with friends and colleagues. We also have a bi-annual in-house newspaper “Campus Buzz” covering all the information and happenings of the campus. Students are free to voice their opinion which is heard and resolved and with all of these activities we build a sound relationship with our students.
Growth of students through placement opportunities available at Vidya Knowledge Park
Our alumni’s all across the world working in top MNCs at reputed designation are setting up new benchmarks and our fresh batch of students are superseding their seniors starting levels. We at Vidya are happy to have played a role in helping the students achieve a significant step-up in their career that is pivotal to their success. As an institution we make sure we have best of the companies, not just the big names but also the small names with good work profile on the campus and our students are aptly and confidently trained to qualify the selection protocols to land up a good position. From top companies like Infosys, Collabra, Wipro, Tommy Hilfiger, we are also proud to give placements to our graduate students of BBA & BCA. We are adding new companies each year with almost 40% of the students getting more than 4 offers in hand and the choice to choose the best. We plan to bring new companies on board to widen the location horizon and the variety of industries as well.
Mr. Saurabh’s philosophy of leadership and his leadership style
I believe a true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decision and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He doesn’t tell you what to do but shows you how it’s done. He sees more than others see, he sees farther than others see and sees before others see. I believe in empowering and participative leadership style to create high-performance team by building productive communication, creative innovative solution and delivering great performance. I make sure I provide a very supportive environment where open and honest communication happens and each little act of brilliance is rewarded and celebrated to keep the morals high.
Suggestions for the current youth and the aspiring students
Slow down, stop. Be present, be still, love yourself and take time to nurture yourself. You are not perfect. No matter what you say or do or how hard you try, you are human and infallible and you will never be perfect. You can't change that so please stop trying because you're wasting a lot of energy on that. Don’t listen to your head, don’t listen to your heart, listen to your gut instead. Take smart risks, travel alone, do what you love and love what you do money is a reward, not a goal and eventually, success will follow. The place you choose for education will be the turning point of your career choose wisely, go visit the place, experience what it will be like and then choose a place that can let you Be You!Last Updated - 01 Dec 2017
