Dr. Yogesh Patil is currently designated as the Director of Prabhakar Patil Education Society’s Institute of Management Studies. His education qualifications include Ph.D., M. Com, MBA, DIFRS, DFM and DTM. With an experience of 14 years, he has his expertise in Financial Management and Costing. The academician is a good orator with a rich experience of working in various Universities as an assistant professor.
In an exclusive interview with Collegedunia.com, he shares his views on the education industry and talks about his leadership style.
Key factors keeping Dr. Yogesh connected to the education sector
I am into this field for over a decade now and started mentoring students at a very early stage. I also offered career counseling to guide them for their future choices. Teaching is my passion, and fortunately, it has become my profession too. In today’s knowledge-driven society, access to quality education is an important factor and to impart the same, I believe, quality assurance is equally important.
Being an educationalist myself, I always try to contribute my opinion on various areas of knowledge, which is possible only when you are connected with the education sector directly. I always aim that continuous efforts on setting targets, learning abilities, creative thinking, students, and teachers’ evaluation are properly defined; it will help our institute to achieve the desired goals.
Participative leadership style and philosophy
First and foremost, I believe in teamwork. If you cannot manage your team, you are not an effective leader. As a leader myself, I try to motivate my staff in every way possible and keep my team organized to make sure that we are all contributing equally. I always assess the situation before taking any action.
My leadership style is participative, where communication plays a vital role by facilitating open communication and tries to bring the best in every team member. In this way, you can build trust between you and your team as they feel encouraged and valued. I also try to delegate important work to my staff according to their ability. In this way, I get a chance to understand them as individual strengths and how they can put team efforts when required. As a director, my leadership philosophy is to provide, proper guidance, direction, and academic environment that leads to productive employees.
Challenges faced being a Director
The standard of imparting knowledge is decreasing day by day, as teachers are neither well trained nor qualified for the post they are assigned to. Youth are only interested in the syllabus based approach of teaching, qualifying the exams and do not care about creative and critical thinking.
Lack of research aptitude amongst the young generation is due to a weak curriculum is another challenge faced by the higher education system in India. Poor infrastructure can be called as yet another challenge, particularly the institutes run by the public sector suffers a lot from physical facilities to our students. Similarly, our institute too facing issues like transportation, inadequate quality staff on campus, lack of communication skills, since students are from rural background are some other challenges that we have come across.

Methods opted to strategise new plans and programs at the Institute
Being a Director, I believe marketing is an essential tool to create awareness among youth about the various educational programs available in today’s competitive market. I conduct workshops, seminars, career counseling programs in various colleges and institute every year to spread awareness amongst students. At our institute level, we are doing the following to prepare the students according to market needs:
- We conduct personality development and spoken English courses for needy students. Apart from this, we also have tied up with “Trinity School of London” for improving communication skills at the international level.
- There are short-term courses conducted every year by professional and experts from BSE and NSE. It enlightens the students about the share market.
- Upgradation of teaching and non-teaching staff is equally important for our institute. For this, we conduct faculty development program, administrative staff development workshop, and to enhance the research aptitude.
- We also organize national and international conferences for both students and faculty members.
Comprehensive and Industry-oriented - Curriculum practices
In today’s education system, curriculum design and delivery of the same is essential to prepare the students to get better employment. For this, we organise many workshops and seminars by calling delegates from the Industry. Internship programs are also arranged for management students, which gives them the insights of working pattern and behaviour in person. Institute also provides Industrial visits accompanied by teachers, which encourage and cite the real-time exposures and real-life examples to them.
Apart from this, there are technical lectures organized in our institute by skilful professionals from various institutes to enhance students’ knowledge. Since our Institute is set up in Raigad district we make sure that there is a provision of communication and soft skills programs happened in our premises so that our students can develop their skills and use the same in their professional task.
Upcoming plans for the Institute
Career selection is a major decisional factor in a student’s life. It is our job to fulfill their dreams by providing the best education to the students. With this, we are very much focused on improving the quality of education with the aid of technology. We are also planning to collaborate with industries and organization to assist and provide a digital learning experience for students. It will help them to better visualize and understand the world concepts at a much more profound level.
Virtual technology is another area to concentrate, delivering high-quality business education, Industry experience application at the educational level, development of research aptitude amongst students, to conduct a national and international seminar, expansion and overall growth of the institute are few on top priority list over the next 10 years.
Creating a favourable environment - Vision for the Institute
I always believe to impart education through theoretical foundation with practical knowledge. And being a Director, I want to provide quality education, and make them aware about the value of education in the modern era. My vision is not only to fulfil the above but also to enlighten our students with every possible opportunity, for which I have developed a strong team who puts their best efforts and willpower for the development of the overall performance of the institute. Well, we are not so far from accomplishing our vision to grow and develop as best institute.

I, also, think and would advise our current youth that knowledge is all about continuous learning and gaining as many skills as possible to prosper and believe that you can succeed in your path.
