Prof. M.M. Saxena is currently working as the President (VC) of Tantia University. He has done M.Sc. Zoology with specialization in Environmental Biology- Gold Medalist, and a Ph.D. from the University of Jodhpur. In the past, he has held the positions of Dean- Faculty of Science, Professor & Head, Department of Environmental Science, Director Research (for 10 years), Controller of Examinations, Coordinator UGC NET (5 terms), Coordinator Self Finance Courses, Chairman Central Library, Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner and Head-Post Graduate Department of Zoology, Dungar College, Bikaner.
Dr. Saxena has over 37 years of Research, Post-graduate teaching, and Administrative experience. He has published over 150 Research Papers in the journals of international repute, besides authoring 6 Books. He is the editor of OIKOASSAY- an international journal of environmental and allied sciences since 1984. He has represented over 100 national and international seminars/conferences. He has been twice invited to deliver Invited Lectures at the Indian Science Congress.
Q 1. Tell us about your experience working in the education industry. What makes it the best industry to work in?
Ans. I consider education not as an industry but as a mission. It is always a great pleasure to work for a mission of one’s choice. I have always enjoyed working as a teacher and as an administrator in educational organizations as you share your knowledge and experience in developing the youth to face challenges in life and help build society and nation.
Q 2. Being the Vice Chancellor of the Tantia University, what are the significant problems have you faced?
Ans. According to me, problems are problems if you consider them so. These are day-to-day challenges to our commitments and one has to address them in his own way accordingly.
Q 3. As private universities continue to mushroom across the country, how does your university stand apart from others?
Ans. If you call the growth in number as mushrooming, it applies not only to the private universities but to the Central and State Universities, Colleges, and all kinds of higher education institutions. It is a healthy sign so far as the quality is not compromised with, and that is what Tantia University stands for.
Q 4. How does your university prepare students as successful and accountable leaders in the 21st century?
Ans. I value the successful and accountable ‘citizens’ more than ‘leaders’. The university is preparing its students to be good professionals through its effective curriculum, teaching and hands-on training. The result is evident in terms of cent percent good placements in many professional streams.
Q 5. How do you look at the placement opportunities offered by your institution and how do you plan to push the envelope further?
Ans. The students of the university are evaluated by prospective employers/companies, both on-campus and off-campus. Prospective employers are invited periodically by the placement cell of the university to select the manpower.
Q 6. How do you implement the latest advances in technology as a part of your curriculum?
Ans. Various Boards of Studies in each subject/faculty carry out a rigorous exercise to update their curricula to meet the present needs and future challenges to implement the latest advances in technology.
Q 7. What is your philosophy of leadership?
Ans. I have a simple philosophy of leadership, that is to have faith in subordinates, respect their views, and guide them with love and passion.
Q 8. How do you tend to establish a relation with the students being the Vice Chancellor of the university?
Ans. As a VC, it’s very important to have a healthy relation with the students to guide them properly. We have regular dialogues with students, address their problems, and earn their confidence.
Q 9. What goals do you have in your mind for your institution for the next few years?
Ans. My current goal is to bring the university on the national map as a premier institution of higher learning.
Q 10. What message do you have for students wishing to join Tantia University in the near future?
