I have been here for more than 10 years. Every day I learn from the youngsters as they are much more intelligent than we think. It is the best sector because there is always so much of satisfaction that the youth are educated for their future living and make us surprise with their achievements.
Significant challenges faced by Ms. Vani as the Director of Sun International Institute for Tourism and Management
Challenges are the ever-shocking behaviors of the students as each person comes from a different background and culture. So, it is difficult to manage the age group which is between 16 -24, as most of them, are hoteliers we have more responsibility to take care of them.
Curriculum of SIITAM
We are always into unique teaching methodology as our USP is IIP-Industry Integrated Program, which bridges the gap between the industry and education system where we meet the expectations of the industry by providing jobs, internships form the 2nd semester itself.
Goals in mind for Sun International Institute for Tourism and Management
Goal was to make Sun Institute to University. We have signed the MOU in AP to start Sun University in Tirupathi to see all the students settle very well globally and MNCs.
Quality of education in SIITAM
Quality starts with everything we do and give be it dress, books, infrastructure international exposure, teaching methodology, attendance management system and our placements.
Study environment in SIITAM
We need to impart ethics and value system from the beginning-respect for elders, personality development classes etc. We have mentor system in the college wherein the mentor becomes the mother of the class, takes care of their academics, as well as personal counseling is a part of her responsibility.
Ms. Vani’s relationship with the students
Mentor system is doing great with us, as it breaks the boundaries and allows the student to be closer to the college. Parents also get in regular touch with the mentors.
Growth of students through placement opportunities available at Sun International Institute for Tourism and Management
Placements are easily provided in SIITAM. Most of the students start working from their 2nd semester and the same companies take them on roles for Hotel Management students. As soon as they finish training in the hotel, they are placed immediately. There is a very little opportunity for us to show placements to students, students get their own. International Internships are very popular in Sun as they go abroad form 3rd year and get the one-year certificate, International exposure and salary before they finish the final year
Ms. Vani’s philosophy of leadership and her leadership style
Leader should be more of a mentor, who creates more leaders. It is not a position it is action and example. I would like to be the change to have a better environment.
Suggestions for the current youth and the aspiring students
Don’t take life too seriously. Observe yourself-what you like, what makes you happy and enjoy what you do.
