Calcutta University has shut down the postgraduate admission portal temporarily following a deluge of complaints being received from PG aspirants.
Candidates were enrolling for various PG programs during which they faced difficulties while uploading documents. As a result, Calcutta University had shut down the admission portal.
The university stated that the resolving process is on its way and candidates would be able to access the portal by Saturday or Sunday. The application window for admission in postgraduate courses in Science, Humanities, Commerce, and Technology was open since November 2, 2020.
As of now, Calcutta University has extended the deadline to submit the application forms to November 14, which was previously announced to be November 10, 2020.
The university received various complaints from candidates stating that they were not able to complete the application process and pay the registration fees due to various complications in the online process.
Bidisha Bhattacharya, who has just graduated from Bethune College complained that "I have been trying to fill-up the form for the last four days. Every time I register, I receive a one-time password by e-mail. But after that when I try to fill up the details the website does not respond."
She stated that because of the weak internet connectivity at home he tried applying from a cyber cafe but still he wasn't able to apply. The admission process of postgraduate courses is being conducted online this year due to the COVID 19 global pandemic.
The university authorities stated that the admission portal was shut down due to the complaints received on November 6 and steps to resolve the portal are being taken. The application server seems to have complications and proper steps are being taken to resolve the issue as soon as possible and the deadline to apply is also extended.
Earlier the affiliated colleges of Calcutta University used to conduct their admission process. But from 2018, Calcutta University started conducting the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) for postgraduate courses.
