Cotton University Receives 15,000 Applications for Undergraduate Courses, a 60 Percent Rise over last Year
With students avoiding going outside the state of Assam to pursue higher studies (due to the pandemic), Cotton University has received a huge number of applications for its undergraduate courses.
Cotton University Guwahati has seen nearly a 60 percent increase in the number of applications compared to last year. Registrations for BA, B.Sc and BCA courses ended on Friday. The merit list will be released on 11 August. The institute received over 15,000 applications for undergraduate courses.
Another reason for this increase could be the decision of the government to make the admission process online for colleges of Assam. Moreover, as no fees have been charged for the application form this year, many students have applied who otherwise would not have done so.
The government of Assam will receive feedback regarding the reopening of educational institutions from various stakeholders until 20 August. Much will depend on the coronavirus situation and the directives from the central government.
The commissioner and secretary to the state education department of Assam said, “We have received around 300 opinions from various stakeholders on reopening of educational institutions. We hope that the state government will be in a position to take a decision by around August 22.”
