Delhi University has proposed scrapping six vocational programmes at the College of Vocational Studies. Only Tourism Management will continue. Seats will move to more popular undergraduate courses from the 2026-27 academic session.
The University of Delhi (DU) has moved to scrap six vocational programmes at the College of Vocational Studies (CVS), Sheikh Sarai. The proposal was floated by the college and forwarded to the university for approval. Only the Tourism Management course will continue in its current form.
The seats freed up will be diverted to what the college calls more popular undergraduate programmes. The change is expected to take effect from the 2026-27 academic session. CVS principal Shiv Kumar Sahdev has confirmed the proposal to the media.
The College of Vocational Studies (CVS) is a constituent college of DU. It currently offers seven vocational programmes alongside its regular BA and BCom streams. Six of these seven vocational courses now face discontinuation.
Which 6 Vocational Courses Are Being Scrapped?
The following six programmes have been listed for discontinuation under the CVS proposal. All six are three-year Bachelor of Arts (Vocational Studies) courses under the DU umbrella.

The principal has said that Tourism Management remains popular and relevant. That is why it has been kept out of the discontinuation list.
Why Is DU Discontinuing These Courses?
The college has argued that the six courses no longer draw enough student demand. It has told DU that the seats can be better used for programmes with higher student demand. The seats freed up will be shifted to mainstream undergraduate courses.
The final list of replacement courses has not been notified yet. However, popular UG programmes at DU include BCom (Hons), BA Economics (Hons), BA English (Hons), and BA Political Science (Hons). CVS already runs several of these streams on its campus.

How Will This Affect the 2026-27 CUET UG Admissions?
Students planning to apply through CUET UG 2026 must track the final CVS course list closely. The six scrapped courses will not accept fresh admissions once the proposal is cleared. Students currently enrolled will complete their existing degree.
Aspirants who had planned to fill the vocational courses on their CUET UG preference list will need alternatives. They should check the DU Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) bulletin before locking their choices.
Concerns Raised by College Staff
Sections of the CVS faculty and staff have opposed the proposal. They argue that these vocational programmes align with the skill-based aims of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The pushback has been reported in Delhi newspapers over the past weeks.
Staff members have flagged that many of these courses continue to see steady student interest. They have urged the university to review the data on admissions and placements before taking a final call.
