To achieve a centralised digital identity, Aadhar Card will now be one of the essential documents for all students while registering for CAT. The Aadhaar Identification which is a 12- digit number allotted by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UDAI) is for CAT.

Why is Aadhar made mandatory?

It is compulsory that the MBA aspirants applying and seeking entry into top renounced IIMs and other prestigious colleges in India through CAT must have an Aadhar Card. The main purpose of Aadhar Card is to control forged enrolment and impersonation to lessen mismanagement. It is basically meant for security and identity purposes. The card will be issued in order to identify the candidates from all the states of India, except for the candidates of Assam, Meghalaya, and J&K. The following points are one of few reasons to make Aadhar a mandatory document.

  • Aadhaar Card contains all the required details of the candidate like his/her name, citizenship, and all other biometric details.
  • It will be easy for the Officials to eliminate any impersonation or error with the help of the details on the Aadhaar card.
  • It will also eliminate the need for multiple documents such as address proof, identification card, date of birth etc. These can be made more than once nowadays

Making Aadhaar card compulsory for all the competitive exams is a very important step for maintaining and improving the quality of the exams. It will also help to follow the educational progress of candidates and is a digital academic repository move. The twelve digit UID number would play a key role and is expected to help employers verify education credentials to reduce job application frauds.

What if you don't have Aadhar Card?

There are few states like Assam, J&K, and Meghalaya where Aadhar Cards are not available yet. Making the Aadhar card a compulsory document for many exams like CAT is still in progress and the result is expected to be positive. The candidates in the states where Aadhaar card is yet not generated can use their photo identity given to them by the State Government to appear for the competitive exams.

The final decision about making the Aadhaar card a necessary document is yet to be announced or notified by the Authority in charge. For competitive exams like JEE Mains and NEET the candidates who do not possess the Aadhaar card and belonging to the states of Assam, J&K, and Meghalaya, they can apply by submitting the following documents:

  • Passport Number
  • Bank Account Number
  • Ration Card Number etc.
