CAT Cutoff 2018 for JBIMS- Expected Cutoff & Admission Criteria

Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) in Mumbai is one of the renowned MBA colleges in India. The college is preferred by candidates willing to pursue Masters in Management Studies (MMS) or MSc Finance. There are 137 seats in the MMS programme.

Admission to these full-time management programmes at JBIMS is done on the basis of CAT Cut off for Indian students. CAT 2018 Cut off for JBIMS is 95 percentile for General category and 75 percentile for the reserved category candidates.

  • Candidates who secure the minimum cutoff marks in CAT are called for further selection rounds.
  • Scores of MHCET are also accepted for admission.
  • Admission at JBIMS Mumbai is done through a Centralized Admission Process (CAP) by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Maharashtra. 
  • International candidates on the other hand, are admitted on the basis of GMAT score.

JBIMS Eligibility Criteria

MMS 

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from any recognized University.
  • Candidates of Backward class categories and Persons with Disability belonging to Maharashtra State only must have 45% aggregate marks.
  • Appearing candidates are also eligible to apply.

MSc Finance

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from any recognized University.
  • Candidates of Backward class categories and Persons with Disability belonging to Maharashtra State only must have 45% aggregate marks.
  • Appearing candidates are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must have opted for Mathematics at the higher secondary level or at the first year of the degree course.
  • Students with a background in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics and other quantitative areas will be preferred

JBIMS Admission Criteria 2018

Admission Criteria for admission to JBIMS on the basis of CAT score consist of three stages. 

  1. The first stage is to appear in CAT 2018 and score above the cut off marks.
  2. In the second stage, candidates academic profile is made based on the CAT 2018 score and previous academic records. 
  3. Based on the academic profile, candidates are shortlisted and called for Stage 3 i.e. In-person round assessment. Candidates have to go through Group Activity, Personal Interview, and Writing Ability Test. Stage 1: CAT 2018

As per JBIMS, CAT 2018 qualified candidates will be shortlisted for their performance in the examination and will be called for admission procedures.

Stage 2: Application Rating (AR)

To be considered for the profile evaluation candidates not only needs to clear the CAT 2018 cut off mentioned above but also needs to meet the Past Academic Record cutoff. 

  • General candidates must have 65% or above aggregate in Class X and 60% or above aggregate at 10+2 level (Relaxation of 5% is given to Reserved Category students).
  • Candidate's profile is used to shortlist candidates for the third stage of the admission process i.e. In-person assessment.  
  • In this, applicants profile is rated based on scores of CAT, Past academic Record, Work experience, Diversity, etc.
  • Candidates meeting the required cutoffs are called for the In-person assessment round.

Stage 3: In-Person Assessment Round (IPA)


The IPA round consists of group activity, personal interview and writing ability test.

Group Activity

  • In Group Activity, candidates are divided into a group of 8-10 participants. Group is given a topic to perform or complete as a team within 20-30 minute. In Group Activity, committee normally checks for leadership qualities, confidence, content and delivery. It’s a process to screen the Aspirants’ potential as well as their skills. 

Personal Interview

  • It is designed to assess Aspirants’ confidence, thought clarity, interpersonal and soft skills. Personal Interview duration depends totally on Aspirants.
  • The purpose of conducting a personal interview is to explore the responses of the Aspirant, his/her interpersonal and soft skills, confidence and thought clarity to gather more and deeper information/understanding about the Aspirant.

Writing Ability Test

In this, candidates are given a topic or a subject to write a 200-500 words article. This tests the writing ability of candidates.

Stage 4: Selection

  • JBIMS evaluates a candidate’s overall (stage 1 to stage 3) performance and prepares the final list of the selected candidates. 
  • These candidates are offered seats in the management programmes for which they have applied in the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies(JBIMS).
  • The final selection of a candidate is based on his total score. The total of a candidate is calculated by: Total Score = 0.60 (AR) + 0.40 (IPA). Check How CAT 2018 Score is Calculated?
  • The minimum Total Score required to be considered for admission to MMS or MSc Finance is 50 for General Category and 45 for Reserved category.
