IIM Shillong Admission Criteria 2020

Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong is an autonomous business school that offers admission to the Post-Graduate Program in Management (PGP) through CAT Exam. After the declaration of CAT result, the institute will release its separate cut off list. Candidates shortlisted based on their CAT score are called for IIM Shillong selection process which consists of WAT and PI rounds. 

  • CAT 2019 is scheduled for November 24, 2019 in computer-based mode. 
  • Online registration for the exam has been started on August 7, 2019. Apply Now!
  • Candidates having bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks can apply at Check CAT Eligibility
  • The result for same is expected to be declared in the second week of January 2020

Selection Criteria for PGP program in IIM Shillong

Selection is based on CAT Cut Off. The overall percentile will be 65-70 and the sectional cutoff is about 62- 65 percentile. Minimum Score of CAT for the category wise academic score:

Initial Steps considered in CAT EXAM

Step1: Selection Criteria

  • All the candidates those choose IIM Shillong PGP course then they will be divided according to their category in the First Round.
  • The candidates resulted through division in their respective category based on the above table will be separated into various subgroups based on their academic disciplines in the Bachelor’s degree.
  • The candidates under various group awarded the ranks in decreasing order based on their CAT overall percentile.
  • The Institute will shortlist total of X candidates for the personal Interviews.X would be decided based on the overall performance of the candidates, space for overlap, the no. of Seats available and attendance trends in the past year.

Stage 2: Creating Merit Listing for the Admission

Candidate’s Personal Interview Scores will be used along with your CAT performance for the admission offer.

  • The weights given to the candidate’s performance in Personal Interview:70%
  • The weights are given to the candidate’s Performance in CAT(Overall):30%

However, the IIM will give different marks to different students in their Personal Interview according to their category. The table depicts the scores given to the eligible candidates:

Note: All process will be handled online from the start registering for the first process to the final fee payment. All the communication between the students and authority will be done through this module and emails.

Instructions to be noted by the candidates:

  • The process of the selection of candidates is only decided by the IIM Shillong only.
  • Applicant’s CAT, academic performances, PI performances are considered as important criteria of selection.
  • The result of the selection criteria will be declared online
  • It is the responsibility of the institute to maintain the confidentiality of the candidate information and the process of evaluation/selection
  • IIM Shillong will take queries of all candidates in all stages ranging from  First stage application process to the final admission process


Ques – What is the duration of PGP program at IIM Shillong? Is it residential or not?

AnsIIM Shillong offer 2-year, full-time PGP program. It is a residential program.

Ques – Is there any financial aids available for the program offered by the institute?

Ans – Yes, IIM Shillong has a provision for Need Based Financial Assistance Scheme to help economically weak PGP participants. The number of scholarship awardees and quantum of assistance is decided based on the annual gross income of the family, participants liquidity, creditworthiness and her/his overall suitability for the same. In addition to the same, scholarships are available for the reserved category candidates

Ques – What is the eligibility criteria for overseas Indian/NRI candidates?

Ans – Overseas candidates including NRIs who seek admission to IIM Shillong (IIMS) Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management can apply in the prescribed application form using their latest GMAT scores. The scores should not be older than 24 months as on the last date of application. The Institute considers the GMAT scores of the candidates living abroad. The overseas candidates who happen to be in India during the CAT examination should appear in the CAT.
