IIM Visakhapatnam Admission Criteria - Phase 2

Candidates, who successfully reconfirm their interest in pursuing PGP from IIMV prior to the last date, will be considered for admission process in Phase 2. These candidates will be referred as qualified confirmed candidates.

  • Firstly, adjustment for qualified confirmed candidates’ percentages in 10th and 12th board examinations will be done by dividing each score by the 90th percentile score secured in that board
  • The 90th percentile score is calculated through database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of last 2 years
  • For bachelors’ and professional degrees, final scores secured by the candidates will be taken into consideration
  • Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting and Company Secretary certifications are the only courses that will be considered under professional degrees
  • In case, candidate’s final score is pending, intermediate scores will be taken into consideration
  • Adjustment for graduation marks is done within their respective categories.

Score or weightage of work experience for all qualified confirmed candidates will be calculated as

8x/36 (if 0 < x < 36)

8 (if x >= 36)

  • Here, ‘x’ is the number of months of work experience until July 2019. Score will be maximum (8) if candidate’s work experience is 36 months or more
  • A weighted work experience score will be calculated by multiplying work experience score with quality of work experience score, which will be granted by interviewers during PI in the second phase
  • Quality of work experience score will be given on a scale of 5 points (0.25 - 0.5 – 1 - 1.5 – 2)
  • Selection of the common parameter of work experience will be based on the maximum of work experience score and professional course score since both are source of professional work experience that is significant for a management program

The weightage of deciding factors under Phase 2 are as follows:

CAT Score40
Class 1020
Class 1210
Bachelor’s Degree20
Gender Diversity2
Work Experience8
  • Weightage of individual sections within CAT 2019 is as follows:
  1. VARC – 14
  2. DILR – 16
  3. QA –  10
  • Normalization or standardization of all factors is done through the following formula:
Max [0, min {wt, wt/2 + ((val-mean)/ sd) * wt/6}]
  • Standardized score (from 0 to weight (wt)) is calculated from raw score (val)
  • A pre-PI rank list is then prepared on the basis of weighted aggregate score of above 6 factors
  • IIMV then formulates a second shortlist of candidates on the basis of pre-PI rank list
  • Candidates thus shortlisted will then be called for further evaluation via PI and WAT
