MAT May 2017 Answer Key, Question Paper, Analysis, Cutoff

MAT May 2017 online mode exam was held on May 13, 2017. Those who have taken MAT May 2017, might now be looking for answer keys and paper analysis. But before that, an answer key is sought after for correct solutions. MAT exam is held four times a year in month of February, May, September and December. 

  • MAT (May) 2017 Answer Key is a compilation of correct answers to all the questions asked in the examination.
  • Sequence of the appropriate responses in the key will be similar or you can say exactly same as that of the questions asked in the exam.
  • AIMA does not officially release the answer key for MAT nor does it mention or notify such information on its site.

Meanwhile, candidates would be able to access the unofficial answer keys which are published by various coaching institutes like TIME, Career Launcher etc. on their website. These unofficial answer key and paper analysis would be made available on the website of coaching institutes on the day of the exam itself (by afternoon or evening).

MAT May Paper Analysis

Candidates who appeared in MAT May 2017 should expect lower cut off in top MBA colleges. The exam had tricky Data Analysis and Sufficiency questions, whereas there were time consuming questions based on Intelligence and Critical Reasoning sections.

The exam was held on May 13, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. There was no surprise element in the test. It is expected that MAT Result may report high percentile.

Management Aptitude Test (MAT) 2017 May exam was taken by an approximate number of 20,000 candidates. Test pattern remained more or less at the same difficulty level as was in MAT 2017 February exam.

MAT 2017 Overall Analysis

The February session of MAT 2017 exam was of moderate to easy level in the level of difficulty. MAT 2017 May exam is expected on similar lines with the February exam. Candidates who have been preparing from quite some time would now find it difficult to handle the exam. The section-wise analysis of the paper is discussed below.

MAT 2017 Data Analysis and Sufficiency Analysis

The Data Sufficiency and Analysis section usually draw maximum question in MAT. The MAT 2017 exam held in May saw maximum questions on data interpretation. Questions in this section are targeted from areas like Charts, Graphs and Graph Comparisons.

MAT 2017 Language and Comprehension Analysis

Language and Comprehension section comprised 40 questions. The section targets questions from areas like Jumbled Sentences, Fill in the Blanks, Vocabulary, Antonym-Synonym, Odd One Out etc.

Apart from that Short Comprehension with 4 to 5 questions also covered a fair portion of questions under this section. The detailed topic-wise analysis of this section is tabled below.

MAT 2017 Intelligence and Critical Reasoning Analysis

This section puts more focus on Analytical and Logical Reasoning along with Critical Reasoning. The questions were targeted from areas like Calendars, Assertions and Reasoning, Analogies, Blood Relations, Directions, Series, Statements etc.

MAT 2017 Mathematical Skills Analysis

Questions asked under this section were aimed at testing the elementary level Mathematical Skills of the candidates. Questions are generally targeted from areas like Percentages, Ratio and Proportions, Average, Profit and Loss, Equations etc. The level of difficulty of the section was easy to moderate and candidates who have done sufficient practice might have found this section easy to handle.

MAT 2017 Indian and Global Environment Analysis

The time allotted for this section is around 15 minutes. Questions asked under this section were mostly based on Conventional Knowledge, Current Affairs, Indian and World Economics. The section is qualifying in nature and is not considered for preparing the final merit list. Usually, it is not very difficult to qualify this section and many candidates found it easy.

Marking Scheme in MAT 2017

Total marks scored by a candidate in MAT 2017 would be calculated based on the calculation of questions attempted and marks per question and adding the negative marks scored by them. The following marking scheme is applicable for MAT 2017.

  • Every objective question would carry 1 mark. Marks would be awarded if the answer is found to be correct.
  • More than one answer for a question would be treated as incorrect answer and no marks would be awarded in that case even if one of the marked answers is correct.
  • Total maximum scaled score out of which percentile score will be awarded is 800.
  • There would be negative marking to the tune of 1/4th of total marks allotted for a question that is 0.25 marks would be deducted per wrong answer.

MAT 2017 Cut Off

MAT Cut Offs would be announced by the conducting authority on its website once the examination process is over. Based on the cut-off a merit list of qualified candidates would be prepared for admissions. The cut-off depends on various factors such as

  • Level of difficulty of question paper
  • Number of candidates appeared
  • Number of seats available that year

MAT Results and Counselling

MAT 2017 Result would be declared on the official website by the last week of May 2017. Candidates can check their MAT MAY Results with the help of process mentioned below-

  • Visit the official website and log in the candidate’s portal.
  • Go to MAT 2017 May Results and enter the tab
  • Enter your registration number and press submit
  • MAT Result will appear on the screen

Based on the results of MAT 2017 qualified candidates who have made it to the merit list would be called for MAT Counselling Process. Seats would be allotted based on the candidates’ performance in the exam and choice filled by them during the counselling process.

The official information related to the counselling would be announced on the website of AIMA once the results are announced and answer keys are published.
