AIEED 2017 Syllabus

    AIEED 2017 Application started from November 9, 2016 and was concluded on Nov 30. The exam will be held in two phases viz. General Aptitude Test(GAT) and Creative Ability Test(CAT). GAT is the first phase of AIEED and it is compulsory for all applicants. GAT will be held from March 15, 2017, to May 10, 2017. Creative Ability Test (CAT) is only for UG candidates. CAT can be given either: - Centre Based: Any two consecutive Saturday's after GAT Exam or Online Exam: Within 5 Days of online GAT Exam. After the completion of AIEED 2017 Examination, the result will be announced in the month of July 2017.

    The AIEED 2017 Exam can be attempted in either online or offline mode. AIEED 2017 question paper will contain 45 to 50 questions, depending on the difficulty level. The total duration of the AIEED 2017 is 3 hours and 15 minutes. The total marks allotted in AIEED 2017 is 200. There will be no negative marking in the examination. Candidates can attempt offline exam in either Hindi or English while the online exam is to be attempted in English only. AIEED (All India Entrance Examination For Design) examination is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge about Design sensitivity, Ability to solve problems, Logical reasoning, Creativity and Awareness on World Affairs.

    Candidates are advised to carefully plan and prepare for the paper. Candidate must practice all topics to get a grip of all the topics.

    AIEED 2017 Syllabus

    AIEED 2017 Question paper will consist of various topics. It is aimed to test the candidate’s aptitude for design and logical thinking. The topics consist of –

    1. Design Awareness
    2. General Awareness
    3. Comprehension
    4. Reasoning and Thinking Analysis
    5. Visual Ability
    6. Skill Setting

    Design Awareness

    To develop Design aptitude and Sensitivity in creativity, the candidates should read a lot of magazines and Design blogs focusing on core concepts & techniques as well as emerging trends in designing. For example, magazines like “Architecture Digest” cover a lot of content on pieces of architectural brilliance.

    General Awareness

    The General awareness section is the scoring subject in AIEED to the candidate who has interest to stays aware about the latest happenings and events.

    • Read newspapers and news magazines
    • Candidate should read Newspaper daily and watch the news for at least 30 minutes to have a better idea of what is happening around the world.


    This section tests students’ ability in reading comprehension. To do well in the Comprehension:

    • Candidate should read comprehensions as many as possible for improving their reading speed and answer the questions based on that.

    While answering comprehension passage, the candidate should keep these four things in mind:

    1. Candidate should always try to understand the gist of the passage.
    2. Candidate should organise their ideas while going through the passage
    3. Candidate should manage their time in an effective manner.

    Reasoning and Thinking Analysis

    This section test candidate ability to identify patterns, understanding of logical links. The questions asked from this topic is common aptitude based,

    • Candidate should solve questions regularly to get a good grip of all kind of questions.
    • Candidate can also prepare for this section by regularly solving crossword puzzles, Sudoku, riddles etc.
    • Candidate should spend some seconds over a question and study each question carefully. A brief explanation of why each choice is correct or incorrect should go into candidate’s mind.
    • Candidate can solve most of the questions of this section by following certain tricks/shortcut methods. Therefore, the practice of the previous year papers is important.
    • Candidates should never assume or use any information that is not given in the question.
    • Candidate must read all the response choices carefully before eliminating or choosing one of them
    • A lot of popular preparation books are available in the market that has a good collection of brain teasers and puzzles with elaborate solutions.

    Visual Ability

    In this section, candidates’ ability to visualize something and draw based on the given question is assessed. Candidate must prepare well using different online sources and books available.

    Skill Setting

    Candidates are advised to improve skills like Human illustrations and Calligraphy, they can be a life saver at times during examinations. Trying your hand at calligraphy and enhancing your abilities in it can make a simple image look lively. The table below states the skills that need to be developed.
