Neeraj Tapadiya says, “Don’t play blame game, it is only your battle and you only can fight for it” who secured admission in BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus via BITSAT 2010

Last Updated - September 02, 2016

Neeraj Tapadiya appeared for BITSAT in 2010. He was offered admission from many colleges but he took admission in BITS Hyderabad Campus. He says, preparing a chart of formulae, chemical reactions and other important things and then pasting on to the wall of the study room is very helpful in memorizing it well. He also shares his preparation tips, strategies that may help you in preparing well for the exam.

Ques. Name of the Institutes that offered you Admission?

Ans. I was getting admission from BITS (3 campuses), all NITs except NIT Trichy and Warangal, SRM, VIT and etc.

Ques. Did you take coaching classes? Mention their role in your Story.

Ans. Yes, I took coaching at Narayana. It was a really horrible experience as your whole life is controlled (literally) by them. But saying that I would not have got through the entrances without their coaching and support. You need to practice a lot and not just that, you need to be intuitive too. They had good set of questions for me to practice and that helped.

Ques. How would you rate the following Preparation Strategy in terms of their efficiency in your story?

Coaching ClassesNCERT Text BooksCoaching Study MaterialOnline Study MaterialSubject Wise ClassesSelf-Study
ModerateNot ApplicableVery HighModerateHighVery High

Ques. Role of Coaching Institutes in Cracking BITSAT

Ans. 7

Ques. What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?

Ans. I was strong at Physics. I was weak at Chemistry. I liked physics at it had some real life situation problems to solve and a lot of logic is required to solve its questions. Chemistry requires a talent of memorizing things which I was not good at. Because my Physics was strong, I practiced it a lot to score high there and also I practiced a lot of mathematics so that whatever I miss out in Chemistry, I can recover here. I believe this formula worked for me at least.

Ques. What mock papers did you take?

Ans. At my coaching institute, Narayana, we had weekly tests. These papers were really helpful for me. They are available for others too. Besides these, there were a few random online papers I solved. Completing the tests and later analyzing the wrong questions helped a lot.

Ques. Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 3 months before the exam?

Ans. Firstly, though it is pretty late to start, don’t lose any hope. Be confident. Second, Make your concepts clear and simultaneously start practicing to get that concept definitively clear. Don’t read all the concepts first and then start. Identify your strong areas and work on them first. Don’t let your strong areas put you down in the exam because you were trying to make your weaker areas better. Third, practice, practice, and more practice. Practice tougher and tougher questions. Fourth, manage your time. Pre plan your day and try to stick to the schedule strictly. No Group Studies!!!

Ques. Physics: Mention the Strategy and Book Followed

Ans. Narayana material! HC Verma. Again, get your concepts clear. Try to imagine the real life situations. The best way to learn physics is to love it. Try to be enthusiastic about it. Solve questions. Tougher and tougher. Don’t go for the quantity of questions you solve, instead go for the quality. As you get stronger and stronger, you can then start working on your speed. Discuss questions with your friends. If there are some formulae to memorize, write them down on a paper and read them every morning for 5-10 minutes. That will help you a lot to solve questions faster when speed matters.

Ques. Chemistry: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed

Ans. It is majorly about memory. So write down the formulae and memorize every morning for some time. Inorganic chemistry is fun. The questions have logic to them. So get the inorganic part really strong if you are the logical kind of guy. I personally didn’t like organic chemistry, but there is no escape from it. If you are finding it too difficult even after trying a lot, leave it. Work on other areas and get them super strong. Basically, make up for the weak areas.

Ques. English: Steps to master this section and the books you followed?

Ans. I was good at English so didn’t need to follow other books in particular. You can instead read a novel or make it a habit to read newspaper daily. Read articles and speak in English with your family and friends. Try to correct yourself grammatically every time. Watch some English TV shows or movies when too stressed with studying. You learn while relaxing! What more?

Ques. Logical Reasoning: Strategy and Books you Followed?

Ans. I solved a lot of online puzzles. Randomly I used to google for logical reasoning tests and there found plenty of them online. You too can do it. Stop the quiz if you think it is easy for you and don’t get excited and happy to secure a good score in an easy quiz. Challenge yourself and try harder and harder quizzes. Also, do solve the general puzzles like Sudoku etc. in newspaper to improve your thinking process.

Ques. Mathematics: Strategy and Books Followed

Ans. Mostly Narayana Material. Mathematics is the most basic requirement for engineers. So practice a lot. I would suggest that you practice for speed in mathematics instead of tougher questions. Get the formulae printed in your head. Solve continuously and take few breaks in between. Time yourself to solve number of questions per hour. Practicing continuously for 24 hours is also not sufficient for Mathematics so don’t be worried because everyone is facing the same problem. Make a Chart and paste it in your room for the formulae and glance at them every now and then.

Ques. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?

Ans. I am pretty satisfied with the college I got into. I would have changed my coaching institute to something that doesn’t concentrate on the hours that you work but on the quality of concepts. Besides this, I personally, could have practiced more. I was a little lazy and didn’t study as much as my friends used to. I could have scored better and could have been in Pilani campus instead of Hyderabad. But no regrets.
