JEE MAIN 2017 Preparation Tips by Ankit Bhargava

Ankit scored 70 Percentile in JEE Main 2004. He took admission in DAIICT. He emphasized on preparing from both course books as well as competitive exam books. Ankit also stressed on the importance of Coaching Centers for comprehensive preparation plans.

Ques. What did you choose- Offline or Online mode for taking up the exam?

Ans. During IIT-JEE 2004, it was having preliminary and Mains. Preliminary was Offline with multiple choice questionnaire, while Main was subjective which was too Offline that time. The only difference was that Mains paper answers have to be provided in blank spaces given in question paper itself.

Ques. Did you qualify for JEE Advanced?

Ans. No

Ques. Did you take Coaching Classes? If yes, how did they help in your story?

Ans. I have joined Bansal classes for 2 year program for the preparation for IIT-JEE examination. Coaching classes provides you bigger aspect as well as detail analysis about your competency. It provides wide range of courses selection with focus on per individual intellect. It gives mock preparation which will help to focus on important topics based on analysis of one's current preparation.

Ques. Rate the role of Coaching Institutes in cracking JEE Main

Ans. 8

Ques. How did you manage JEE Main Preparation along with your Class 12th exam?

Ans. Class 12th and JEE courses and contents have much similarity. If you focus chapter wise preparation, it will cover for both 12th and JEE. Now days coaching classes are also providing support for preparation for board exam along with JEE. Even they tie up with School so that one's don't need to attend schools will doing the coaching.

Ques. What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?

Ans. My strongest subjects were Chemistry-Organic and Inorganic and Mathematics-Calculus. Weakest was Physics.

For preparation, I decided to continuously improve weak areas and keep revision of main strong areas. For special efforts, I attended crash course for my weaker areas and it has improved a lot. I was selected in preliminary, but could not make it for Mains.

Ques. What mock papers did you take?

Ans. I took mock examinations from coaching classes on bi weekly basis. They also provide mock papers as homework which can be try out at home and one can do self-examination and analysis. Apart from this, online mock papers are available especially previous years’ examination papers with answer key.

Ans. H.C. Verma - Concept of Physics Vol1 and II, I.E. Irodov - Problems in General Physics, Halliday, Resnick & Walker - Fundamentals of Physics and NCERT – Physics.

Ans.  O.P. Tandon  - Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry by MORRISON & BOYD, J.D. Lee - Inorganic Chemistry, P.W.Atkins - Physical Chemistry and NCERT - Chemistry

Ques. Mathematics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.

Ans. R.D. Sharma - Maths 11th and 12th , Arihant - Differential Calculus, Arihant - Integral Calculus, Tata McGraw Hill (TMH) and NCERT – Mathematics.

Ques. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?

Ans. I could have focus more on improving weaker sections rather on solving things out on stronger areas (although it makes you motivated). It all depends on your hard work and intelligence (moreover common sense). Little bit of Luck is also important which can make huge differences in getting decent All India Rank and increase chances to get better college.

Ques. Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 months before the exam?

Ans. 4 months is less for preparation as it would easily take 15 months to make basic setup with advance study and revision as whole, while taking mockups and attending lectures. Even if you have decided to start lately I think Crash course is a good option as it goes with speed and less time which can still make you to prepare better,
