JEE MAIN 2018 NEWS
NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE/OFFLINE TEST
There is a decline in the number of candidates who appear for JEE Main 2016. This trend has been on a decline for the past three years. The numbers speak for themselves. Here we have for you, the stats of these three years.
|YEAR||NUMBER OF ASPIRANTS|
JEE-Main is one exam that helps you take admission into the best Engineering colleges across India. Institutes like NIT, IIT etc. are centrally-funded and hence, a choice of many aspirants. The top 1.5 lac rank holders who appear in JEE-Main, are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced to take admissions to the premier IIT’s. This year, 2 lac of these students will be selected.
The JEE Main 2016 was conducted on April 3 and 10 April, 2016. It is a national level Engineering entrance exam that is divided in two parts- Paper 1 and Paper 2. Candidates can choose to appear in either or both of them. They consist of only objective type questions and is conducted through both online and offline modes.
In a statement by the Minister of State for HRD, Mahendra Nath Pandey explains how there is a reduction in number of students appearing for the screening test of JEE-Main. However, the number of students who appear for the IIT entrance exam i.e. JEE-Advanced is on an increasing trend. For the candidates shortlisted for JEE-Advanced, they were 1,19,575 in 2014 and went up to 1,47,678 in 2016, added Mr. Pandey.
|YEAR||NUMBER OF SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES|
In terms of the JEE Main 2016 Reservation categories, 823 Scheduled Caste students made it to the Common Rank List (CRL) to fetch admission into the IIT’s. This means, that these students secured their names in the list without the use of the relaxation scheme. IIT Guwahati, the organizing IIT for this year’s JEE, has released a data that explains that there are 22 of these 823 students that ranked between 1 and 2,000 in the Common Rank List. A candidate ought to score a minimum of 10% in each subject & an aggregate of 20% to be able to come in the CRL.
In the previous year, only 515 SC students could make it to this Common Rank List. This year, the number jumped by 308 of the total SC students. If calculated in percentage, this sums up to 11.21% of the total 7,339 SC students who cleared JEE Advanced. While students who secured general ranks last year, account for 20% of total 2,570 who cleared the exam.
According to recent studies, of the total 1.5 million engineering graduates passing out each year,20-33% of them go through the risk of not getting a job at all. Infact, the initial salary offered to them is extremely low. Survival amidst the inflated prices, makes them think of non-engineering options. Often, their most chosen option is flying out to other countries. Also, the primary industries are hiring less number of engineers these days. This directly affects the market of aspirants looking for jobs in IT’s.
In case of the ones who get a job, end up taking jobs that are much below their educational standard/qualification. You see them working in BPO’s or as sales executives and hence, no link between what they studied and where they work now. Their skills do not come to use. Thus, the case of underemployment.
The recent data about observes that there are less than 8% Indian Engineers who are fit for core engineering jobs. National Employability Report came up with this data, that talked about the career options that engineers have. The study was conducted on a sample of 1,50,000 engineers. The results showed that there was a gap between in skills of engineers, as needed, to work in large industries.
Less number of engineers pursuing their core area jobs has probably decreased because of the factor that each one of them wants to be associated with an IT company, which is obviously not possible.
Last but not the least, the study talks about the higher employability in Delhi and Mumbai with employability for the electronics design engineer role as high as 19 per cent followed by cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The lowest employability figures across roles is observed in Chennai with employability for the Civil Design Engineer role as low as 1 per cent.
We are sure that cracking the JEE Main is no easy job and hence it is being reflected in many different ways. From low paying jobs to unavailability of jobs, the repercussions are well seen today. So, a little intervention by the government is expected in the future soon.
