Sachin appeared for JEE Mains in 2013 and cleared it by scoring 185 marks. He was offered admission from MANIT Bhopal and NIT Raipur but he chose MANIT Bhopal. We had a questionnaire with him and he shares his success mantra for JEE Main 2017 aspirants. Along with the strategies, he also tells about the books to prepare for JEE Main exam.

Q 1. What did you choose - Offline or Online mode for taking up the exam?

I chose offline mode of answering. There are some pros and cons. Since childhood, I have a habit of paper pen based test, so I was familiar with this and mostly there is no worry about technical glitches.

But OMR filling is time taking and once the answer is marked, it cannot be changed.

Q 2. Did you qualify for JEE - Advanced?

Yes, I qualified for JEE Advanced.

Q 3. Did you take Coaching Classes? If yes, how did they help in your story?

Yes, I took coaching from Vibrant Academy Kota. It helped me very much. The interaction or networking with an enormous group of people that gave me an edge over others in this competitive academic environment.
Coaching classes kept me abreast of the syllabus changes and other crucial information that may be not achievable with self-studies. In coaching classes, I always competed with my peers. It pushed me to do my best.

Q 4. How did you manage JEE Main Preparation along with your Class 12th exam?

I was well prepared for my board exams, so didn’t have to worry a lot. Just kept revising the formulae and the important points in each topic. For class XI topics also, I revised all the formulae and their applications and had a clear concept. I kept practicing questions every day to improve the speed and accuracy. This was more than enough for a good score in JEE Mains since the questions were pretty simple and straight forward.

Q 5. What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?

    1. My strong areas were Physics and Mathematics and weak area was Chemistry.

    Efforts to Improve:

    1. Continuous Revision
    2. Solving more number of problems

Q 6. What mock papers did you take?

I took the Vibrant Academy Test Series. As the saying goes “Practice makes a man perfect,” it is utmost relevant to JEE Main aspirants. Devoting time on solving mock tests is highly recommended by various coaching experts because these tests help students in better preparation by giving them an opportunity to revise the syllabus well before the actual JEE Main exam. It helped me very much.

Q 7. Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 months before the exam?

Organic and Inorganic Chemistry is very easy in CBSE Board. It can be easily mugged up and it increases your chances to score more in JEE Main. A proper study material is the most needed for better preparation. Choose best books, which cover up all your JEE Main Syllabus.
Remember all the formulae and learn how to use them. The basic principles should be cleared make sure you have understood the concept. Don't go beyond the syllabus. Also, look again at those problems you studied on your own.
Your 3 or 4 months preparation also depends on your understanding of 11th and 12th class. Revision of the syllabus is very important; it ramps up your confidence and make you perfect.
Solve at least 5 sample papers seriously considering it as JEE-Mains. Passion for studies is the main key so don't lose it. Always remember the three C's when you are in trouble. Be Cool, Calm and Confident.

Q 8. Physics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.

My strategy was same for preparing all the three subjects. Just want to say, give time for revision and practice hard. I followed Concepts of Physics by H.C. Verma - Volume 1 and Volume 2 and Complete Physics for JEE Main 2016 by Irodov for preparing for JEE Main.

Q 9. Chemistry: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.

I was positive throughout my preparation years. I gave my best at the revision time and followed NCERT books for theory. For different kinds of question, I prepared from IIT Chemistry by OP Tandon.

Q 10. Mathematics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.

I kept my attitude positive and revised all the questions. JEE 2017 is all about concepts and understanding. Abstain from learning by rote as it will not take you anywhere. Focus on concepts and practice hard from text books, online and sample papers. Refer to previous years’ papers to know the JEE Main Exam Pattern and difficulty level of questions asked.

Remember, the whole preparation strategy may turn useless if you fail to devote time for
IIT Mathematics by R.D Sharma. I also followed a book: The Pearson Guide to Complete Mathematics for JEE by SL Loney.

Q 11. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?

I just wanted to put little more effort everyday by at least 1% to have better score.
