How To Prepare for JEE Main Paper 2 Aptitude Test?

JEE Main Paper 2 is a widely known exam among B.Arch & B.Planning Aspirants. Every year nearly 1.5 lakh candidates appear for Aptitude Test in Architecture.  JEE Mains Paper 2 is scheduled for April 8, 2019 in 112 exam centers in India and abroad.

  • There are approximately 850 B. Arch/ B. Planning seats in various NITs/ Architecture institutes that accept JEE Main Score card.

    Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) JEE Main Paper 2 Syllabus

    If you are desiring to get admission in B.Arch & B.Planning courses through JEE Mains, you need to mind map the prescribed syllabus for result-oriented preparation. There are no changes in the JEE Mains Exam Syllabus in 2019. The Syllabus will remain same as it was in 2018.

    • Freehand drawing: Simple drawing showing the entire object in its right proportion and form, relative location, surface texture, and details of its components in suitable scale, Ordinary domestic or everyday life utilizable objects like equipment, furniture, etc.
    • Geometrical drawing: Activities in geometrical drawing containing lines, triangles, angles, quadrilaterals, circles, polygons, Study of plan (aerial view), elevation (side or front views) of simple solid objects like cones, prisms,  splayed surface holders, cylinders, cubes, etc.
    • Three-dimensional perception: Perception and appreciation of 3D forms with building elements, volume colour, and orientation, Visualization through constituting objects in memory.
    • Imagination and aesthetic sensitivity: Composition activity with given elements, Context mapping, Creativity test through an uncommon innovative check with recognizable objects, Logic of colour grouping.
    • Architectural awareness: General awareness and interest of famous architectural creations – within the country and outside, places and celebrities (architects, designers etc.)

    Type of Questions asked in JEE Main Paper 2

    Drawing test in Aptitude Test in Architecture tests a candidate’s drawing skill,s. With that it also checks how well a candidate observes their surroundings and is able to interpret it through drawings. Rather than just colouring skills or artistic capabilities, Paper 2 looks at the transfer of thoughts from mind to paper. 

    • Perception of 3 dimensional. For a given object, building forms and elements candidate has to understand and appreciate scale and proportion of objects with an understanding of colour texture, harmony and contrast. 
    • Design and draw geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil.
    • 2 D and 3 D transformation union, subtraction, rotation.
    • Development of surfaces and volumes

    Ques. What Questions are asked in JEE Main Paper 2 Drawing Section?

    Ans. JEE B.Arch Drawing Section holds 2 questions based on drawings. These questions are to be attempted on a separate Drawing Sheet which will be provided with the question booklet: 

    1. 2-Dimensional Drawing: Draw a free hand (without using ruler/compass) mirror image of the image formed by the composition of Circles, Squares, Triangles and Rectangles.
    2. 3-Dimensional Drawing: Read the question carefully. The question can be asked on light & shadows cast by 3d solids such as Cylinder, Cubes and Sphere.

    JEE Main Paper 2 questions on the drawing may consist of following types of questions. Use Pencil while drawing.

    • Transformation of forms both 2-D and 3-D union.
