How to Prepare for JEE Main Aptitude Test for B. Arch and B. Planning?

JEE Main 2020 is scheduled for January 6 - January 11, 2020. This year, the exam conducting authority has introduced a few changes including separate exams for B. Architecture & B. Planning, instead of one common exam. JEE Main Paper 2 is for B. Arch aspirants and Paper 3 is for B. Planning aspirants. Both the exams include aptitude and mathematics sub-sections where Aptitude is a key factor.

  • There are approximately 850 B.Arch/B.Planning seats in various NITs/ Architecture institutes that accept JEE Main scorecard.
  • If you are appearing in both papers, the exam duration will be 3 and a half hours. Manage your time accordingly.  
  • The Aptitude Test for both, Paper 2 and Paper 3, will be common. Download JEE Main Practice Papers

Start by taking these steps for better management of your JEE Mains Aptitude study plan:

  1. First, distinguish between Important & less important topics. Separate the topics holding higher marks weightage in the aptitude section. Check JEE Main Paper Analysis
  2. If you need some perspective about the Drawing test section, substantiate your study material with Engineering Drawing books.
  3. Try to analyze objects closely & draw the dimensions.

JEE Main Aptitude Syllabus for Paper 2 & Paper 3 is essentially the same. A detailed aptitude syllabus is tabulated below:

Syllabus for JEE Main 2020

If you are desiring to get admission in B.Arch & B.Planning courses through JEE Mains, you need to mind map the prescribed syllabus for result-oriented preparation. There are no changes in JEE Mains 2020 syllabus, though there are some major changes in the exam pattern. The syllabus will remain the same as it was in JEE Main 2019 syllabus.

  • Freehand drawing: Simple drawing showing the entire object in its right proportion and form, relative location, surface texture, and details of its components in suitable scale, Ordinary domestic or everyday life utilizable objects like equipment, furniture, etc.
  • Geometrical drawing: Activities in geometrical drawing containing lines, triangles, angles, quadrilaterals, circles, polygons, Study of plan (aerial view), elevation (side or front views) of simple solid objects like cones, prisms,  splayed surface holders, cylinders, cubes, etc.
  • Three-dimensional perception: Perception and appreciation of 3D forms with building elements, volume colour, and orientation, Visualization through constituting objects in memory.
  • Imagination and aesthetic sensitivity: Composition activity with given elements, Context mapping, Creativity test through an uncommon innovative check with recognizable objects, Logic of colour grouping.
  • Architectural awareness: General awareness and interest of famous architectural creations – within the country and outside, places and celebrities (architects, designers etc.)

Ques. What Questions were asked in JEE Main Paper 2 Drawing Section?

Ans. JEE B. Arch Drawing Section holds 2 questions based on drawings. These questions are to be attempted on a separate Drawing Sheet which will be provided with the question booklet: 

  1. 2-Dimensional Drawing: Draw a freehand (without using ruler/compass) mirror image of the image formed by the composition of Circles, Squares, Triangles and Rectangles.
  2. 3-Dimensional Drawing: Read the question carefully. The question can be asked on light & shadows cast by 3d solids such as Cylinder, Cubes and Sphere.

JEE Main Paper 2 questions on the drawing may consist of following types of questions. Use Pencil while drawing.
