For JEE MAIN 2017 aspirant to clear the eligibility criteria,he /she needs to score 75% marks in higher secondary examination or the rank scored among top 20 in the respective board exams.The eligibility scores in higher secondary examination,till 2016, was limited to candidate’s 50% marks in total with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) as main subjects.

Class 12th scores will only be an important barometer for determining the eligibility for JEE Main 2017.The present system dealt with allotting 40% weightage of class 12th marks for deciding ranks in JEE Main entrance exam.
Talking in regard to Schedule Caste and Schedule tribes 10% relaxation is being given to them.For SC/ST,to qualify for JEE MAIN 2017,a candidate should acquire 65% marks in 12th class.

According to the sources if the candidate fails to meet the required cut-off i.e. 75% for General candidates and 65% for SC/ST candidates in Higher Secondary exam,then his/her rank will be of no use in entrance and the same will be nullified.

Some sources quoted that all the institutes are likely to admit JEE-Main aspirants based on the same entrance exam as IITs, i.e. JEE Advanced.JAB board member quoted that the final decision will be taken by the end of 2017.

The minimum qualification for clearing JEE Main 2017 will be based on candidate's score in higher secondary examination i.e. minimum 75% marks or the rank scored among top 20 in the respective board exams.
The basic eligibility criteria for appearing in JEE Main is you should be class 12th pass or equivalent with45%marks in each of the subject (40% in case of reserved categories).
