JEE MAIN 2019 NEWS
NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE/OFFLINE TEST
JEE Main was successfully conducted on April 8, 2017. The level of difficulty of the paper was moderate. More than 10 lakh students appeared for JEE Main exam on April 8, 2017. The Paper 1 online of the JEE Main was conducted in 2 sessions. The JEE Main Paper 1 consisted of 90 questions divided among Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics equally.
JEE Main 2018 Offline based paper was held on April 8, 2018. Students’ initial reactions were that the paper is not at all tough. Students said that section was toughest of all 3 sections. Check out the JEE Main 2018 question papers and Answer key.
It was a mixed reaction from the students regarding the difficulty level who have appeared for the exam.
Paper was balanced and was set from CBSE syllabus of Classes XI and XII. However as expected, many of the questions were conceptual with some needing analytical skills. 25 questions were easy, 53 questions were of moderate difficulty and 12 questions were relatively difficult. In D-Set, question No. 34 and 54 of Physics were tough and needed analytical ability beyond NCERT book.
The pattern was same as the previous year. There was a slight change as this year Physics was a bit tougher than Math. Chemistry was way easy, as someone who has prepared for the boards thoroughly. There were 90 questions carrying 4 marks each. All the questions were objective in nature with only one correct answer. The table below provides the distribution of marks among all the three sections.
|Subjects||XI||XII||Total No. of Questions||Total Marks|
|-||No. Of Questions||Marks||No. Of Questions||Marks||-|
The total number of questions were 90 with 30 questions each in all the subjects respectively. The class wise division of questions was in the same ratio. 15 questions from both Class 11th and 12th syllabus was asked in Physics & Chemistry. In case of Mathematics, 14 questions were from class 11th syllabus and from 12th syllabus, the number of questions was 16.
A student who attempts paper with cool head, he can attempt complete paper. Overall, difficulty level for paper was between easy to moderate. For a student who has been focused and serious all through the two years in improving speed and accuracy by taking regular quizzes and mock tests on JEE Main Exam pattern, must have done reasonably well. It is always relative performance which matters in such competitive examinations.
In Physics paper, overall questions were on easier side and straight forward as compared to last year. By and large, paper was on the expected lines without any element of surprise. Almost all the topics covered were prescribed by the CBSE for JEE (Main).
In this Section, there were few question which were made by clubbing two different topics. This is a new change which can be seen in many questions. In Physics, 19 were easy 10 were medium whereas in Mathematics 17 were of easy level. One question each was tough in both Physics & Mathematics.
|Mechanics||44||36.7||Error analysis, vertical translational and rotational Motion, SHM, Doppler effect, Conservation of momentum, Friction, Moment of Inertia|
|Thermodynamics||12||10||Thermal Expansion, Gas laws, First law of Thermodynamics|
|Electrostatics and Magnetism||16||13.3||Electric Dipole, Magnetic dipole moment, Capacitance, Communication system|
|Current Electricity and EMI||24||20||CR circuit, EMI, Kirchhoff’s laws|
|Optics and Modern Physics||24||20||Bohr Model, Half-life, De-Broglie hypothesis, Lenses, Interference|
Unlike every year there was a change in trend. The weightage of Inorganic was less than other two parts of Chemistry which was completely different in previous two year JEE Main papers. The weightage of Inorganic was always more than other two sections.
In Chemistry, two out of three questions required deep conceptual understanding and application.
|Physical||48||40||All the topics|
|Inorganic||24||20||Diagonal Relationship, Isoelectric Species, Halogens, Werner’s Theory|
|Organic||48||40||Reactions of Alkene, Carbonyls, Carboxylic Acids, isomerism, Resonance, directive influence of Substituents on benzene|
Mathematics was considered by most to be the most difficult of the three subjects, purely due to its lengthiness, despite being comparatively easier than last year. This year there were few questions which were made by combining two topics. Like there was a question of Permutations in which the variance was asked at the end of question.
In Mathematics, Set-D Q 28 was controversial and few questions were lengthy. However, serious students found paper relatively easy compared to last year.
|Algebra||44||36.7||Complex, Solutions of Equations, P&C, Progressions and Series, Probability,|
|Coordinate Geometry||24||20||Triangles, 3D Geometry and Vectors, Ellipse, Hyperbola, Circles|
|Calculus||44||36.7||Sets, Functions, Limits, Differentiation, Rates, Properties of Integrals, Area, Differential equation|
|Trigonometry||8||6.7||Equations, Heights and Distances|
JEE Main cutoffvaries each year because it depends on factors like number of candidates appeared, seat availability and difficulty level of examination. The cutoff is individually deduced for various category of candidates.
Based on the JEE Main cutoff score 2017, CBSE will select top 220000 candidates to appear for JEE Advanced 2017 scheduled to be held on May 21 for admission to around 11,000 B. Tech seats in 23 IITs.
Moreover, JEE Main 2017 cutoff score would be the basis for selection of candidates for admission to nearly 24000 seats distributed among 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 GFTIs.
