JEE MAIN 2017 Preparation Tips For Physics

Last Updated - March 14, 2018

JEE Main 2017 is scheduled for April 02, 2017. Candidates will have to appear for 3 papers – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Physics is usually considered the toughest section among the three sections. Some of the important chapters that candidates must focus upon include Mechanics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Optics & Waves, etc.

JEE Main is one of the most competitive entrance exam since all the NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and SFTIs accept JEE Main score for offering admission to B. Tech. program. Top 2,20,000 rank holders in JEE Main 2017 will be also shortlisted for JEE Advanced.

Previous year question papers and sample papers will help in preparing for the overall exam as well as individual sections. Candidates can actually assess the pattern of questions as well as get hands on practice in solving the questions. Candidates are also advised to go through some important reference books for better understanding of core concepts.

The detailed topic wise weightage and tips to prepare for JEE Main 2017 Physics Paper is mentioned below. Candidates can also check out some suggested reference books for Physics section.

Important Topics in JEE Main Physics

The syllabus for JEE Main is based on the Class 11 and 12 curriculum. Therefore, candidates should refer the syllabus prescribed by their respective boards. However, the preparation strategy should concentrate on covering most important topics in a comprehensive manner to obtain maximum results.

In recent years, 25% questions are kept easy, 50% questions are of average level of complexity while the rest 25% are relatively high on difficulty level. Candidates can check the weightage of important topics from the table below.

Topics in PhysicsWeightage of Questions
Current Electricity20%
Optics & Waves20%
Modern Physics10%
Heat & Thermodynamics7%
Communication Systems3%

Kinematics and Particle Dynamics are two important subtopics from Mechanics. Waves Optics and Ray Optics are the two topics to cover in Optics, where students should practice Wave Optics first because it is smaller in size than Ray Optics.

Based on the analysis of last few years’ JEE Main question papers, candidates can check out the topic wise topic wise distribution of questions in Physics section.

Tips to Crack JEE Main Physics

Physics is a key section for all JEE Main 2017 aspirants. It can make a major difference in the final score of the candidates. However, with some complex concepts and formulae, it can pose a major challenge for candidates.

Candidates can check here some useful tips to prepare for JEE Main Physics paper.

  • It is important to practice each formula very strongly, for that candidate needs to practice sample papers daily, it will help to remember the formulas.
  • Aspirants must learn and practice tricks and small formulas to solve lengthy questions to save time.
  • Candidates should focus on making their concept stronger by understanding and practicing it rather than mugging up all the concepts.
  • JEE Mains paper has a negative marking so candidates have to attempt the questions very carefully, and should attempt only those questions that they are very confident about.
  • Topics like Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism are most important and scoring topics in Physics. Therefore, candidates are advised to prepare separately on these topics.
  • Thermodynamics is a topic which is commonly asked in the examination, all it requires is strong hold on the concept and lots of practice.
  • Candidates are advised not to pick any new topic just before the commencement of +JEE Mains 2017, it will result in confusion and waste of time.

Important Books for JEE Main Physics
