JEE MAIN 2018 Exam Analysis

Knowing the overall difficulty level based on previous year trends would allow candidates to ascertain the required amount of effort required on a particular section or topic. Here are few key pointers to give you an overarching perspective on expected scheme of examination and sectional difficulty level.

  • JEE Main exam comprises 90 objective type questions with 4 marks for every correct response and 1 mark for every incorrect response.
  • The weightage assigned to topics from class XI and XII vary section to section every year.
  • From the three sections, Physics and Chemistry are easy while Mathematics is a tricky one.

Subject wise comparison of the difficulty level of the previous year is as follows:

MathematicsEasyEasy Moderate Difficult

Subject wise detailed paper analysis

1 Physics

Based on the analysis of last few years’ papers, Physics section was easy yet quite lengthy. Students had to focus more on numerical based questions because more numerical were asked in this section. Mostly the questions were asked from prescribed syllabus of class XI and XII.

JEE MAIN 2018 Expected Cut off

Cut off marks are the minimum marks scored by the candidate in order to clear the entrance examination. Students having marks less than the cut off marks are not eligible to get admission in the desired course. As per the difficulty level of the examination, cut off marks keep on changing every year.

Several factors would contribute to determining cutoff. Some of prominent factors are indicated below:

  • The difficulty level of the exam
  • Availability of seats
  • Total number of students appearing for the exam
  • Previous year cut off trends
  • Reservation Norms

The Cutoff for last 3 years will give you better insight into the expected minimum score required in JEE Main 2018. Last year’s cutoff saw a major dip after the decision to scrap class XII score for calculating JEE Main All India Ranks.
