JEE Main April 9 Paper Analysis

JEE Main 2017 online exam was conducted on April 9, 2017 for Paper 1. The morning shift has been conducted from 9.30 AM to 12.30 AM while the second shift was conducted from 2 PM to 5 PM. Paper 1 consisted of 90 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics sections. The online exam was of similar difficulty level as the offline exam. Mathematics section was little bit difficult and lengthy, Chemistry was easy and Physics was moderate.

This year, over 15 lakhs students appeared for JEE Main at 113 centers across the country with 9 centers outside India. Only top 2.2 lakhs candidates will be shortlisted for JEE Advanced. CBSE had also made available a mock test on its official website.

JEE Main 2017 Overall Analysis

There have been a lot of similarities between this year paper and last year’s paper. The paper seems to have been moderately easy yet lengthy with questions from some subjects being even lengthier than last year.

  • The weightage of marks titled towards questions from the syllabus of class 12th.
  • While the division of questions from both class was in the similar ratio.
  • There were 40 questions from class 11 syllabus while 50 questions were from class 12th syllabus.
  • Around 148 marks can be considered easy overall, 160 marks are relatively difficult and 52 marks are considered difficult.
  • The paper is slightly easier than the last year, hence JEE Main Cutoff should slightly increase from last year in all categories.

JEE Main 2017 Physics Analysis

  • In Physics, there were 30 questions asked in the examination
  • Overall questions were on easier side and straight forward as compared to last year.
  • Candidates encountered more calculative questions than theory based.
  • The weightage of marks titled towards the 12th standard syllabus with 19 questions while 11 questions were picked from the 11th standard syllabus.
  • This section was relatively difficult and had 30 questions carrying four marks each.

JEE Main 2017 Chemistry Analysis

  • In Chemistry, the questions were quite balanced.
  • Equal weightage was given to Physical, Organic and Inorganic chemistry.
  • No questions were from topics like States of Matter and Chemistry in Everyday life.
  • Unlike last year, most of the questions were conceptual while lesser number of questions were memory based.
  • The weightage of marks titled towards syllabus of class 12th with 17 questions chosen from it and 13 questions chosen from class 11th syllabus.

JEE Main 2017 Mathematics Analysis

  • Two or three questions were lengthy but few questions were straight forward as well.
  • Questions asked were conceptual and nearer to JEE Advanced paper in terms of tricks and approach.
  • Candidates confined to the NCERT and related text books would find it difficult.
  • The weightage of marks was unequal with 20 questions chosen class 12th syllabus and 10 questions from class 11th syllabus.
  • The paper contained 15 questions from Algebra and 6 questions from Calculus.
