NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE/OFFLINE TEST
Kishlay Kumar cleared JEE Main with 99.89 in 2015. He got call for admission from NIT Allahabad and MNNIT but chose NIT Allahabad to pursue his technical studies. He focused on preparing for boards and JEE Main separately.
Given below is the questionnaire that we had with him. He has shared the wisest of ways to help JEE Main 2018 aspirants prepare for exam the right way. There is nothing better than taking guidance from those who have already aced what you achieve of dreaming. He emphasizes on the importance of maintaining balance between board examinations and JEE Main and not being reluctant in asking for help whenever you need it. Also, he highlights how preparing with mock tests is essential in order to understand and ace the exam.
Q 1. What did you choose - Offline or Online mode for taking up the exam?
I choose offline mode because I practiced mock tests in offline mode.
Q 2. Did you qualify for JEE - Advanced?
Yes, I qualified for JEE Advanced.
Q 3. Did you take Coaching Classes? If yes, how did they help in your story?
Yes, I joined FIITJEE in 2011 through F-40 test which was held by FIITJEE and I got 100% waiver on my tuition fees. Yes, it helped me a lot in preparation and teachers in FIITJEE Patna center were the best teachers in India. All India Test Series (AITS) of the FIITJEE is best for preparation for JEE Main.
Q 4. How did you manage JEE Main Preparation along with your Class 12th exam?
I forgot about JEE Main one month before the board examinations and only focused on the board examinations. I think it was a wise decision as it kept me focussed. I didn’t want JEE Main to affect my board examinations which I believe are equally important.
Q 5. What were your Strong and Weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?
My weakest subject was Chemistry. For preparation of Chemistry, I took extra class from my teacher to clear all my doubts. One way to succeed is to never hesitate in asking for help.
Q 6. What mock papers did you practice with?
I took only FIITJEE mock papers (RTPF) which were given around 4 months before JEE Main examination. I think those were sufficient for cracking the exam.
Q 7. Write some of the Preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 months before the exam?
All those who are starting 4 months before, don't have enough time. They must focus on solving numerical much more than reading new topics.
Q 8. Physics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.
For cracking JEE Main, H.C. Verma is the best book for theory knowledge. For numerical, solve numerical from HC Verma and DC Pandey and practice the study material provided by coaching. Many students waste their time by solving Irodov, but in my opinion Irodov is not necessary for JEE Main. If you want deep knowledge in particular topic then you can follow Irodov otherwise you can solve D.C. Pandey numerical of levels 2 or level 3.
Q 9. Chemistry: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.
N.C.E.R.T is the best book for preparation of JEE Mains. You must solve numerical of this book and remember all content. After that, follow the study material provided by coaching. In my opinion, NCERT is sufficient for JEE Main examination mainly Organic and Physical Chemistry of NCERT is best. You can follow any book for Inorganic either your study material or any Arihant Publication book.
Q 10. Mathematics: Mention the Strategy and Books Followed for this section.
For Mathematics, you need to focus on main topics such as Trigonometry, Co-ordinate Geometry, Calculus, Algebra, etc., I think Arihant Publications is sufficient and has good books for these topics such as S.L. Loney for Co-ordinate, S.K. Goyal for Algebra and much more. Both of these books are sufficient for Mathematics. Firstly, you must follow your coaching study material then try these books.
Q 11. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?
Solving more numerical rather than deep studying a topic and stop wasting much time on small topics would make me to get into a better college than NIT Allahabad.
