NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
JEE-Main is a national level test to getting admission to Undergraduate Engineering courses at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments and other Institutions. JEE (Main), Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) is also an eligibility test for the JEE Advanced. The JEE Advanced is taken by the candidates who are aspiring to take admissions to the undergraduate courses at the IITs. The exam was held on April 3, 2016 in pen and paper mode. While, the computer based test was held on April 9 and 10, 2016. The results were announced on April 27, 2016.

The reservation criteria for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2016 essentially depends on the quota of seats allotted to an institute by either State Department of Technical Education or the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This reservation quota is based on the rules defined by Government of India the relaxed admission norms are provided to the following categories:
|OBC (Other Backward Classes) belonging to Non Creamy Layer||7.5%|
|Persons with Disability (PwD): 40% or More||3%|
The Government of India has provided a scheme to States and Union Territories which do not have engineering colleges or polytechnics or lack educational facilities in specific fields of technical education. The government aims at maximum participation of eligible students from different North Eastern States and Union Territories. The seats are allotted through a Centralized Seat Allotment Board for North Eastern States and Union Territories (CSAB NEUT). The CSAB NEUT 2016 allocates seats to students on the basis of their All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main 2016 to Engineering/Technology and Architecture courses.

Seat allotment as per categories
The candidates from the North Eastern States and Union Territories are given different categories as per each state and UT. The seats will be allocated as per the reservation rules of each state which can be found in the CSAB NEUT 2016 Brochure for each state respectively.
