Changes in XAT Test Pattern

XLRI or Xavier Labour Relation Institute prescribes the paper pattern of XAT. Over the last few years, XAT Exam Pattern has undergone several revisions. The changes in the exam pattern are made with respect to:

  • Exam Duration,
  • Number of Questions,
  • Level of Questions and 
  • Marking Scheme

Apart from these changes, no change is made in the mode of XAT examination. From the starting, the exam is held in offline mode. It is conducted in written mode to ensure that candidates from all the backgrounds feel at par. The following article informs candidates about the changes made in the exam pattern with the analysis of the same.

XAT Exam Pattern Analysis

XLRI Jamshedpur, every year, introduces significant changes in the paper pattern of Xavier Aptitude Test. The pattern remains This is because, as per the authorities, the management exam assesses the aptitude of candidates as future business leaders. And as future is unpredictable the questions and pattern is also modified as per the current scenarios.

  • The infographic only consists information from Part 1 of XAT.
  • As visible above, XLRI has reduced the number of questions from last 4 years.
  • As for Part 2 of XAT exam has General Knowledge and Essay Writing section. The score in these sections is equally important.
  • The scores in Part 2 paper are used at the time of final selection i.e. for GD and PI round.

Major Changes in XAT Exam Pattern (Last 4 Years)

Change 1: Number of Question

The implication of this change as per our understanding is: Candidates will have to score more to obtain the same percentile as last year – as the attempts will go up and so will the corresponding scores.

Change 2: Time Limit

  • The reason for increasing the time limit for attempting XAT Exam is the level of difficulty of the exam.
  • This also implies that the students will be able to attempt more questions and have better chances of scoring more.

Change 3: Marking Scheme

  • As for the marking scheme, it also keeps on changing every year.
  • In XAT 2016, negative marking of 0.05 was applicable who left more than 13 questions unanswered.
  • In XAT 2017, negative marking of 0.05 was applicable who left more than 12 questions unanswered.

Expected Changes in XAT Exam Pattern 2018

XLRI Jamshedpur will release the official exam pattern for XAT 2018 shortly. But, as per the trends, the following changes are expected to be made. Listed below are the expected changes in XAT Exam Pattern 2018:

  • Number of questions – It is expected that the number of questions in XAT 2018 will decrease.
  • Duration of Exam – as per the previous trends, the time duration for the management might increase. 
  • XAT Marking Scheme – The marking scheme will also see a change as per the trends.
  • Level of Difficulty – It is expected that the difficulty level of the questions will be high.
