  • Candidates will be able to move out and in from the sections in the exam. There is no restriction on this facility.

  • Part A has 3 sections namely, Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation.
  • Part B has questions from 2 sections- General Knowledge and an Essay writing.
  • Sighting the changes introduced, XAT Cut Off might increase marginally.

XAT 2018 Exam Pattern

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2018 will be conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of XAMI on January 7, 2018, from 10 AM to 1.35 PM in a single session as online computer based test. This is the biggest change in XAT exam pattern which has been introduced by XLRI, as for more than last 60 years XAT has been a paper pen-based test.

Despite all the changes in other exams, XLRI-XAT exam did not change from paper-based test to computer-based test. However, picturing the changes in other exams also and with a view to save the paper and to make the exam process a little faster, XAT 2018 has been changed to online computer based test now.

XAT syllabus is not that strict. XAT Syllabus is based on past trend of XAT exams and it is the outcome of the topics that have been covered earlier in the exam through the type of questions, their structure, format and number may change in each successive XAT exam.

The subjects can be broadly divided into Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation. These three constitute the three sections of the exam paper. There are two parts in XAT 2018, Part 1 which has these three sections. All the questions are objective type questions. Part 2 tests the candidate’s General Knowledge and Essay writing.

The number of questions in each section in XAT changes each year. Going by the past inclinations, XAT 2018 exam pattern may further get refurbished and the number of questions in each section of XAT question paper may change. However, XAT 2018 question paper does not propose to increase the number of questions and as per the last 2 years exam trends, total questions in XAT 2018 question paper may decrease further from existing 72.

Marking in XAT 2018

Accordingly, all questions will carry equal marks in XAT 2018 question paper as seen in previous years question paper and exam pattern. There will be negative marking with 1/4 of a mark being used as a penalty for each incorrect answer. Each question in the test paper will have 5 answer options. There is no change expected in XAT marking scheme as of this year.

XAT 2018 Exam Duration

The time limit to attempt the paper is now increased to three and half hours. Candidates will get 170 minutes for XAT Part 1. Total time of 35 minutes will be allotted to attempt GK and Essay writing sections in XAT 2018 exam. Five minutes are allotted as turn over time between the two. XAT 2018 test takers would be expected to attempt GK questions in 10 minutes and rest 25 minutes are supposed to be devoted to Essay Writing section.

How to mark the answers?

If you are familiar with online exams, you know that candidates have to mark the answers by clicking the right option. They can move to the next or the last question by clicking the ‘next’ and ‘previous’ buttons respectively. They can also move smoothly from one section to another in XAT Part 1 by clicking the name of the section. Candidates are advised to be careful while attempting the paper as XAT is being conducted online for the first time.

XAT 2018 Cut Off

XAT Cut Off has remained constant over the past few years, however with the newly introduced changes, we can expect a marginal surge in the cut off this year. The reason sighted for this increase is that XAT has been made an online computer based exam and the time duration has also been increased, therefore, aspirants may be quicker to answer the questions via online mode. Apart from this, increase in time duration may result in an increase in the number of questions attempted.

XAT 2018 Registration

XAT registration is open now and it will be open until November 30, 2017. Candidates can also register till December 15, 2017 with a late fee if they are unable to register before November 30. XAT Registration can be performed by visiting the official website i.e. http://www.xatonline.in/.

XAT scores are used by many top B-schools of the country for providing admissions. There is a percentile cut off announced after the exam. There are also sectional cut offs. Only marks obtained in XAT Part 1 are considered while calculating the percentile. XAT Part 2 is also important but it does not contribute to the percentile score. Marks scored in General Knowledge section of XAT 2018 test paper would only be used at the time of final selection and not for selecting contenders for interview or GD.

XAT is a national entrance exam and it will be conducted in all the major cities across India. There are about 50 exam cities, the list can be found on the official website.
