STATE LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
TANCET entrance test for MBA and MCA is scheduled on March 25, 2017 at different time slots. TANCET for M.E./M.Tech/M.Plan is scheduled on March 26, 2017. Exam will be conducted at 15 test centers.
According to Anna University every year roughly 60,000 students take up the TANCET examination. The total number of seats for TANCET MBA in Anna University is 60 out of which 7 seats are reserved for SC and 7 seats are reserved for ST candidates. Apart from this, 10 seats are reserved for MBC candidates and 18 seats are reserved for BC candidates. The remaining 18 seats are for candidates of other castes.
Reservation is provided for certain reserved categories through TANCET. In this article, we have explained the detailed TANCET Reservation Criteria as applicable for the following categories.
The total number of seats is available for admission in MBA, MCA and engineering courses are expected to be around 18000, 17000 and 20,000 respectively, to be filled under government quota through a single window counselling. A total of 69 % percent seats is reserved for SC/ST/SCA candidates while the rest 31% will be open for open category students i.e. candidates from other states.
Selection will be made under 7 categories namely OC, BC, BCM (BC Muslim), MBC & DNC, SC, SCA and ST reservations following the rules of reservation of the Government of Tamil Nadu as follows:

As per Tamil Nadu Government, native candidates of Tamil Nadu alone will be considered for communal reservations. Candidates seeking admission against SC/SCA/MBC & DNC/BC/BCM (BC Muslim) quota should obtain the certificate of social status issued by the competent authority in the prescribed permanent community card in Tamil Nadu and enclose an attested photocopy of the same along with the application.
1. Applicants from Tamil Nadu State should have a valid permanent community certificate in card format issued by the competent authority. In a case of ST candidates, the community certificate should have been issued by the Revenue Divisional officer. The permanent community certificate card issued to ST candidates by Tahsildars up to November 11, 1989 only is valid.
2. Community certificate obtained from other states will not be considered for communal reservation.
3. For communities linked with districts, the candidates should obtain their community certificate in their respective district. Community certificates obtained from other than their respective district will not be considered. However, the candidates who belong to BC, MBC and DNC communities in a particular district and migrated to other places in Tamil Nadu and obtained Community certificates from the competent authorities in the migrated district on or after October 28, 2009 will be considered.
4. Candidates who have not enclosed an attested photocopy of the permanent community card certificate will be treated under Open category.
According to the choices submitted by candidates, seats will be allotted in order of the rank of candidates. The seat allotment result will be declared online and will be published at the official website of Anna University. In case, the candidates will not be satisfied with the seat allotted to them, they can wait for the next round of the TANCET 2017 Counselling. But if they will be satisfied with the allotted seat, they should pay the amount for securing the seat allotment.
The candidates who apply for admission to full-time M. E./ M. Tech./ M. Arch./ M. Plan. Degree programmes in Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Planning will be grouped as given below:
A. Gate Category
Candidates who have a valid GATE 2015, GATE 2016 and GATE 2017 score with qualifying marks for assistantship in the appropriate discipline of Engineering/ Technology.
Candidates who have a valid GATE 2015, GATE 2016 and GATE 2017 score with qualifying marks for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers should appear for TANCET 2017 also.
B. TANCET Category
Candidates willing to be considered under TANCET category should appear for TANCET 2017.
C. Sponsored Category
A limited number of seats (full time only) is made available for the candidates employed and sponsored by the Government organizations, Government aided educational institutions and registered professional architects with a minimum of 5 years’ professional experience, under sponsored category. All such candidates who intend to apply under sponsored category have to appear for TANCET 2017.
