Last Updated - May 18, 2018

The Quantitative Aptitude section in TANCET evaluates a candidate’s skills in solving mathematical problems based on primarily elementary topics and some complex topics from the Intermediate or equivalent level. This section takes up about 25 % of the whole paper and each incorrect answer warrants a negative marking of -0.2.

Because of the provision for negative marking in this section, it is very important that candidates attempt the QA questions carefully, in order to score well in TANCET, as negative marking can bring down your composite score.

TANCET Preparation Tips for Quantitative Ability

Candidates preparing for TANCET should follow the proverb ‘Practice makes perfect’ to the T, as in an important section like the Quantitative Aptitude. The key is continuous practice in a timed setting.

  • Repeated workings on TANCET mock tests within specific time-frame can help you improve your speed as well as accuracy.
  • Studying the formulae of the important topics on a regular basis can help you in solving the problems faster.
  • Preparation for Quantitative Aptitude should be 5-pronged: structured study plan, studying right reference material, sample paper practice, speed, and accuracy, and to top it all, self-care.
  • Structured Study Plan is crucial to identify your strengths and weaknesses in terms of topics to be covered and also schedule each of them for maximum practice time.
  • Studying the right reference books not only helps you cover the test syllabus in a very structured manner but is also operational for good preparation. Check all TANCET Preparation Books 2018
  • Mock Test Papers gives candidates almost the real feel and solving as many mock tests as you can in a timed fashion can help you immensely in securing a higher rank in the test.
  • Speed and accuracy during the entrance test, candidates are allowed a fixed time-frame to complete the entire paper of different sections. So, speed to complete the paper on time and attempting each question with accuracy is very important. More so, because in Quantitative Aptitude section, there is provision for negative marking which can reduce the composite score of a candidate. As such it is very important to maintain speed in attempting the mock test papers while being accurate at the same time in the answers.
  • Taking care of oneself is crucial for any kind of success and if you are not fit enough to write your exam, no amount of preparation and practice can help you score well in the test. Moreover, a healthy body and a calm mind will help you to focus well and thus perform better in. So, self-care is of paramount importance.
