NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
JEE Advanced 2021 exam will be conducted online as a computer based test. The exam is likely to be conducted in the fourth week of May 2021. Registration process will commence in the first week of May 2021 and the result will be declared by the second week of June, 2021. It is conducted by either of the seven zonal IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) in rotation policy for admission into the bachelor level engineering programs. This entrance exam is one of the most difficult to clear as the number of seats in this prestigious engineering institute are limited. The pattern of JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) Advanced changes every year but its syllabus remains the same.
Every candidate has to take 2 compulsory papers and the duration is 3 hours for each paper
All those candidates who secured a rank not more than 2,50,000 in JEE Main are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced.
Candidates can appear in both January and April session of JEE Main and the better score among the two sessions shall be considered in order to appear in JEE Advanced.
Each candidate irrespective of their category can attempt this exam for a maximum of 2 times in consecutive years.
Questions in the paper are from 3 subjects - mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Negative marking applies to some questions.

The minimum eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Advanced is to secure a rank less than 2,50,000 in JEE Main. In context to the academic qualifications a candidate who is eligible for JEE Main is eligible for JEE Advanced. Some specific eligibility criteria are stated below:
JEE Main rank should be anywhere between 1 - 2,50,000 examinations for all categories.
Passed class 12 in science subjects with at least 75% aggregate marks. Mathematics should be a compulsory subject in class 12.
Candidates who already appeared for this exam twice in two consecutive years are not eligible to apply.
If you were selected for admission in any of the IITs before, you are not eligible to apply even if you did not continue with the program.
The syllabus for this examination consists of questions from mathematics, physics, and chemistry from class 11 and 12. You can follow the NCERT books for these two standards. Though the pattern changes every year, the syllabus remains the same. The conducting body of this examination publishes the syllabi every year which can be found on the official website.

As one of the most popular exams in India, millions of students try to clear the exam every year. The level of difficulty is much higher than JEE Main and some students prepare for this exam for years with the help of various coaching centres. In order to ensure that only the best students are admitted in the engineering programs, the pattern is changed on a yearly basis. This exam is highly conceptual and the JEE Advanced paper puts the application ability of students to test.
A single correct answer will fetch you 3 marks while 1 mark is deducted for a wrong answer (if negative marking applies to that question).
Answering the question type with one or more correct answers will fetch you 4 marks while for an incorrect response is penalised with the deduction of 1 mark.
Answering a numerical value based question correctly is awarded with 3 marks and there is no negative marking for this type of question.
For list match set questions, correct responses are awarded with a 3 marks and 1 mark deducted for an incorrect answer.
The total duration of this examination is 6 hours (3 hours for each paper). Paper 1 is conducted from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM and paper 2 is conducted from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The number of questions in both the papers changes every year. However, the marking scheme remains the same.
Despite the changing year, it is possible to work up an estimate of the paper to help you understand the exam better. You can go through the JEE Advanced Exam Pattern of the last years to get an idea.
Despite being one of the toughest exams to crack, it is taken by lakhs of students every year to secure admission into one of the 16 IITs. The syllabus is that of 11th and 12th standard which is covered by most of the students so the concepts must be covered thoroughly. Let's go through some of the generic tips before moving on to subject wise suggestions:
Tune your mind and body to the routine you would follow on the day of the exam. Practice mock test papers or previous exam questions by the given time at least 2 - times a week.
As questions in this paper are application based, focus on mastering the basic concepts well. Practice these types of questions.
Work on your strengths and do not try to put extra effort into the topics that you have not touched at all during the final stage.
You can find peers who are preparing for this exam and study in groups. Group study is helpful in many ways.
Time management is vital for an exam like JEE Advanced. Plan your study schedule in a way that would allow you to devote adequate time to each topic.
Understand the syllabus and topics very well. Knowing what you are about to attempt helps in preparation.
Procrastination is your worst enemy. Students often pile up learning or revision due to procrastination. Get rid of time wasting habits and ask someone in your home to keep track of your progress and keep checks on unnecessary tasks.
Important topics for this topic are: Application of Derivatives, Circles, Parabola, 3D-Geometry, Area of Bounded Regions, Matrices, Differential Equations, Limits and Continuity, Definite Integral, Theory of Equations, and Trigonometry.
Try to solve as many numerical problems as possible. Increase the number of problems solved each day as you improve.
Focus on topics like permutations and combinations, probability, and complex numbers as these topics cover 80% questions from algebra.
Work on vectors and 3D. These, despite being lengthy are important as 30% of questions will be covered if you master it.
Important topics for chemistry are: Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Hydrocarbons, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Equilibrium in Physical and Chemical Processes, Chemical Bonding, Organic Chemistry, P-block Elements, Atomic Structure, Chemical Kinetics, Haloalkenes and Haloarenes, Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen, Hydrogen and Surface Chemistry.
For organic chemistry, you can score well if you get the concepts right as about 40% questions are from this section.
Physical chemistry is also highly scoring as most questions are typical rather than applied. Focus on topics like states of matter, thermodynamics, atomic structure, equilibrium, and chemical kinetics.
Inorganic chemistry has both applied and typical questions, so do take your time to master this section.
Important topics for physics are: Thermodynamics, Electromagnetic Induction, Fluid Mechanics, Alternating Current, Modern Physics, Capacitors, Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Rotational Dynamics, Vectors, Optics, Magnetism, and Wave Optics.
Build your concepts using NCERT books. Use the same to work on the topics which are your weakness.
Learn by visualizing the problems through graphs and diagrams. Keep all the theories and formulas in a notebook as it will help you with problem visualization.
Learn how to apply the formulas you learned instead of just mugging them up.

Be well rested one day before your exam. A good night’s sleep can do wonders and beside you would not want to feel sleepy during the exam!
Wear comfortable cotton clothes as the exam will be held during summer.
Solve the paper going by the order of your strength to weakness. Attempt what you find easiest first and hardest last.
Avoid discussing the answers of paper 1 with other examinees during the break. Rather use the time to focus on paper 2.
Question: What is the mode of examination for JEE Advanced 2021?
Ans. JEE Advanced 2021 will be conducted online as a computer based test. Candidates are required to mark their response on the computer screen.
Question: Will the exam for paper 1 and paper 2 be conducted the same day?
Ans. JEE Advanced is a one day examination and so both the papers shall be taken on the same day. The paper 1 will be conducted in the morning shift and paper 2 will be conducted in the afternoon shift. Both the papers will be of 3 hours each.
Question: What is the minimum marks required in JEE Advanced for admission in IIT Kharagpur?
Ans. The minimum cut off varies according to the department chosen by the candidates. As per the previous year statistics the maximum closing rank was capped at 3822 for Aerospace Engineering and the lowest closing rank was capped at 283 for computer science and engineering.
Question: What are the maximum marks for the exam?
Ans. The full marks including both the papers in JEE Advanced is 600 in which 300 have been assigned for each paper.
Question: Is negative marking applicable for all questions?
Ans. The negative marking is applicable only to the MCQs. The numerical answer value based questions is free from any penalty for wrong answers.
