IPU CET 2018 NEWS
STATE LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
10454 All India Rank holder, Ayush Semwal gave IPU CET in the year 2013. He chose to take admission to B.Tech program offered by Northern India Engineering College (NIEC). Self-study helped him the most and was his most important strategy for preparations of the exam.
According to him, the key strategy to success is preparation through online study material, coaching classes, NCERT books and subject wise classes. In his view, joining coaching classes isn’t more important than self-study. Read below about his preparation strategies:
Ques. How did you manage your IPU CET preparation along with your class 12th exam?
Ans. It is quite difficult for a student to prepare for college and 12th exam simultaneously. One needs high concentrations to focus on both of them at the same time. Students need to focus on the main concepts given in the NCERT books and then move slowly at higher levels required for the preparation of the entrance examinations.
Ques. What were your strong and weak areas? How did you prepare and what special efforts did you put for improving them?
Ans. I was well versed with the NCERT questions and at the basic concepts of the subjects. But I majorly lacked in higher level order thinking questions. It was very hard for me to understand them. I took extra classes and practiced the topics regularly to overcome my weakness. Proper guidance is required apart from the teaching provided by the school so that students can understand the Numerical problems well and do well in the entrance.
Ques. What mock papers did you take?
Ans. The mock paper series was provided by the coaching institute which I had joined. The coaching institute I joined organized weekly tests based on the pattern of the entrance examinations. Such tests provided sufficient practice for the upcoming entrance examination. Also the test series gave the confidence to the student in terms of sitting in the examination and filling the answers properly.
Ques. Write some of the preparation tips for someone who is starting 4 months before the exam?
Ans. Devote most of your time on practicing from the NCERT text books as they are very good in developing the conceptual knowledge of all the subjects. They cover almost all the syllabus that is going to come in the entrance examination. You can also buy at least one reference book and practice the numerical questions from it. Numerical questions are of good weightage in the IPU Entrance Exam.
Ques. Physics: Mention the strategy and books followed for this section
Ans. I found ‘Concepts of physics by HC Verma: Volume 1 and Volume 2’, the best book for the preparation of the entrance examination. It covers the entire syllabus and includes Numerical based problems required for the practice by the students. I will recommend you to buy it.
Ques. Chemistry: Mention the strategy and books followed for this section
Ans. Organic Chemistry by Morrison Boyd is a very good book for the organic chemistry section that comes in the entrance examination. It includes good conceptual knowledge as well as proper Numerical problems.
Modern approach to chemical calculations by R.C. Mukherjee is book that covers rest of the syllabus which is required for the IPU CET Preparations.

Ans. Class XI and XII Mathematics by R.D. Sharma is the best book available to the students for the preparation required for the entrance examination. The good thing about this book is that it also includes a lot of to the students that do also come in the board examinations.
Ques. What are the things you would like to go back in time and change to get into a better college?
Ans. I should have focused more on the basic concepts of NCERT books and give more time to the self-practice and self-study.
