NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
JAM or Joint Admission Test is an all India admission test conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Science (IISC) on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development. IIT JAM is a gateway to get admitted to M.Sc. programme, joint PhD dual degree, and other post B.Sc. programmes at various IITs.
IIT JAM 2017 will be conducted on February 12, 2017. The admit cards for IIT JAM are available for download since the January 10, 2017. The exam will be conducted in two sessions, with Biological Sciences (BL), Mathematics (MA) and Physics (PH) scheduled in the first session (9:00 AM. -12:00 PM). The second session includes Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG) and Mathematical Statistics (MS) being held from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
With only a month left for the exam, it is only natural for the candidates to be on the edge. Even though you have started your preparation well-ahead, most of you might still be agitated. Fear not, for we bring some last-minute preparation tips, as well helpful exam day instructions. We assure you that these will help you excel your IIT JAM Exam.
It is only common to be anxious during the day of exam and even the most brilliant of students are bound to make the silliest of mistakes due to a sudden wave of amnesia and restlessness. The following are a few tips to make sure you don’t commit any minor mistakes outside of the exam hall.

To perform the mathematical calculations better during IIT JAM, authorities have introduced the Virtual Calculator. So that complex numerical questions can be solved quickly. The candidate must be well versed with the various functions and shortcuts for performing fast calculations and reaching at the final solution.
IIT JAM 2017 is an online mode of examination with the duration being 3 hours. It consists of 3 sections. There are a total of 60 questions with a weightage of 100 marks. The three sections and their weightages are given below.

The questions in Section A will have four different choices, of which only one will be correct. Questions in Section B will also have four choices, of which one or more answers may be correct. Full marks will be awarded only if all the correct choices are chosen. Section C consists of numerical questions which has signed real number as an answer. This answer is to be entered using virtual numeric keypad present on the monitor.
In Section A, for questions having weightage of 1 mark, the candidate is awarded 1 mark for every correct answer and 1/3 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer. For the questions carrying 2 marks for correct answer, 2/3 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer. Section B and Section C have no negative marking and partial marking.
